Hello! I'm going to be 'teaching' the little girl who has my pony on loan, and her sister, they are both 6, and cantering on the leadrein and over teeny tiny jumps.

Need some ideas (other than bending race, rising trot with no hands etc) for FUN stuff we can do. Will have mother on the end of the leadrein or running around near by at all times!

Just going to do it a couple of times for fun. Ponies are very bombproof, so can do pretty much anything.

Thanks :)

my little girls teacher used to put a flower ( or something similar) on the saddle and then they ( the class) used to do sitting trot to get their seat. The one with the flower still on the saddle at the end ( circuit of school) would be the winner. My little girl loved it, it really made the kids try.:) Hope that made sense.

How about a potato race? Place potatoes on to of bending poles, place a bucket at one end. Pony and rider collect one potato at a time and drop into bucket. They do tend to bounce out making it more tricky than it sounds. If you miss the bucket dismount, pick up potato, remount and try again.

Cups on poles, my little girl loves that, over and under game, they have to lead their pony, run to first jump, crawl under onto the next jump over etc, to make it even more fun, daisy likes to race another child who is completely on foot. They are always in giggles by the end.

And the usual around the world, touch ears, touch tail with head, basically anything that makes them look silly, while learning balance and skills without knowing they are actually learning anything :)

Being a games fan and also involved with Pony Club I've invented a few games for the little kids to do either alone or as a team.

Catch the Duck
For each lane/team.
1 Tommi Tipee Plastic bath Duck, 1 Large Eye screw - screw into top of Ducks head.
1 piece of Dowel cut to 60cms long and screw in a large cup hook in one end.
1 Plastic bowl with water to float Duck
1 Upturned rubbish bin to put bowl on.

Rider rides to the bowl carrying the dowel and hooks up the duck, then rides back again carrying the Duck. Rider not allowed to touch the Duck with their hands

Thread the Button
1 MDF coaster with 2 holes drilled into it to look like a big button
1 shoelace - I found some lovely coloured ones at a $1 shop, kids scrapped over the Pink & Purple one! :D
1 Upturned rubbish bin to put button on

Rider carrying the Shoelace rides to the upturned bin and threads the shoelace through both holes, then brings Button and Shoelace back to start

I've others if you want to pm me

hmm this sounds like duck abuse...

Thanks everyone!

I want to do fun things like this because I really feel sorry for some of the kids that always have to school and learn everytime they ride - by doing games I think they learn alot about control and balance aswell as actually enjoying it with their friends. The reason the lady doesnt buy her kids lessons yet is because when she tried it for a few weeks she felt the teachers were very pushy and it was all too strict and competetive.

Thanks for all the ideas :)
