Ok, so I'm currently trying to get my riding fitness back after I had my baby 8 months ago.

I've been having professional one to one lessons every fortnight and I am trying to ride at least 3/4times a week (although this weather isn't making it easy!) when I can get a babysitter.

It turns out that my balance among other things needs quite a bit of improvement since I turned into a jelly baby with no core strength. so I've been trying to think of ways I can improve on this when I am at home with my baby.

Then i came across an idea.....I've just been watching a parelli programme on H&C (I know, I know but nothing else was on :)) and Linda designed a "Steady Eddie" - basically it's a plastic barrel on a stand with stirrups and the idea of it is that you can practice with your position by sitting on it and simulating your rising trot. In theory it sounded like something that might help or at the very least give my neighbours a laugh! but wanted other people's opinions before I get the OH to build one! (Lol)

Has anyone tried something similar? Or have you got any other ideas for things that I can do (or get the OH to build :D) at home to help with my riding position? I am already exercising with Pilates but I wanted something more riding based if possible.

Anything to do with core strength. Depending on how your stomach muscles are, sit ups, crunches etc. And good posture all the time, so you have shoulders back, tum in etc, even watching tv or making a brew, & especially when you walk, even across the room, good basic posture is very similar to correct upper body riding position, & uses stomach muscles. Not tried it myself but those big birthing balls or a big space hopper to sit on also require you to sit up correctly.

I made my own small version of that when I was a kid! I dont know if it helped my riding at all though, but my brother was very amused. Those big gym balls are good for balance and core strength, theres a lot you can do with them. Also, hula hooping is a good ab and leg workout if you have enough room.
