I rode Bailey last night

It is quite a big achievement for me as I hav'nt ridden him since he came back from a friends because of my major confidence issues. Bless him he was a very good boy as always and now I have broken my fear it is onwards and upwards.

I have decided to see how we get on and to stop being so pround and get help- Mum has offered to help financially too which is good

So to the point of the post- In an ideal world I need a rider/ instructor who would be willing to come down and school Bailey and/ or teach me on Bailey two days a week. I would also like somebody who will eventually compete him a little until I get confident enough to do it myself (obviously paid) We are in Weybridge in Surrey. Does anybody have any recommendations?

Thanks

Rather than pay an instructor to compete / ride him, whynot advertise for someone experienced to ride him? Then you can get an instructor for lessons.

I would but I would imagine that is harder said than done, I need somebody to school him to a high level and somebody experienced and quiet with young horses. Most riders in that catergory are professionals and so I think it will be a case of paying unfortunately.

I agree - alot of people will think they're up to the job

but don't automatically look for bhs qualifications. I bet there'd be people experienced who would happily school in return for a little cash and the opportunity to see the fruits of their labour by being able to compete him.

eta, and you can always ask for references!

I'm in Surrey and in the same situation - have a lovely Tb who can jump, but I cant (am trying though - will get there eventually!) and I just need someone to sit on him once a week, have a jump and if they want they can take him jumping or xc while my skills and confidence catch up - but really struggling to find someone for right price at the right time and wary of putting ad's in tack shops etc...

If you find someone good and they are interested in taking on another once a week let me know!

BHS qualifications don't really bother me- I would much rather somebody competing to a decent level or somebody with a good reputation for schooling youngsters and starting their competitive career.
He is a lovely horse and a pleasure to ride. I think I might have a look at some of the adverts in the local tack shops see if there is anybody offering what I want, and is it maybe worth me putting an advert on Horsequest or similar?

It may be worth an ask, although I have transport it is'nt at all practical for me too box out for lessons/ for somebody to ride twoce a week as I work full time and it ends up being very time consuming.

its up to you. I compete at BSJA on Bruce and before I got him he would not go in the ring....so used to young cheeky horses.

I trained with 2 international riders and whildt I know that doen not make me a good rider it deos mean I can sit on most horses and ride them (if you know what I mean)

Saying that you might have to do me a favour and let me ride him if my boy stays limping!

If not I know someone that would come and ride him for you.

I would try advertising, but be very clear what you are looking for. I have just found a lovely lady to help me out who is very experienced. I think as long as you are very honest upfront it can work out.

Wish I was closer, you know I would be there like a shot! Seriously though I am SO SO pleased you made the breakthrough - he is a fantastic stamp of a horse and I envisage you will have many years of fun on him - good luck and keep us posted please!

sorry to barge in again but what does everyone think would be the best way to word an advert to find someone to ride? I don't want a sharer, just someone relaible who will turn up when they say, is competant enought to have a jump on D and doesnt need me holding their hand all the time...?

Maybe its best just to get a pro in and pay....

Wanted reliable, experience rider to help with bringing on/ producing my horse to jump as I am not very confident in that field. May be the chance to compete for the right person.

So glad you've decided to carry on with him - he's a gorgeous horse!

Maybe things have worked out for the best after all!!

Hi

I'm on the kent surrey border and use a trainer I take my mare too which doesn't sound like what you're after. I do however have a very reliable dog walker who also schools horses. She's jumping discovery with her own horse and is incredibly reliable and great with the dogs and she also does my friends horses.

pm if you want details.
