Hi I'm from Australia and have joined this forum because I'm coming to the UK in July and thought it would be nice to spend a week with a good riding coach that could help me develop my position and feel on a horse. Although I've been riding for quite a while I have some bad habits that I'm looking to address that I think is impacting on my capacity to ride my young horse.

I've been doing web searches but not coming up with anything much apart from trekking holidays. I'm really looking to go somewhere for a week that has accommodation and where I can have some tuition focussing on improving my seat and balance so grateful for any suggestions of where I might be able to go. thanks:)

Unsure where you are based, but Talland is where Pammy Hutton teaches. VERY professional establishment with a good choice of excellent instructors and advanced horses. You can stay on their premises, but its a little remote so a car would be an advantage - but that is the case with most places.

As above, email heather moffett about a week of intensive lessons she is amazing at turning riders around in a short time :)

Becky Chapman at Ashen Equestrian Centre is inspiring and the centre is the right size to be very personal, but big enough to be professional.

She also has a mechanical horse - which gives detailed analysis on whether you are balanced, in front of horse, behind horse, etc so you can deal with any weak areas and then take what you learn onto the horse.

Although normally people bring their own horses, she does have a couple you can use.

I don't know if you could get to Ireland but in the summer I am going to Clonshire Equestrain centre which offers a high standard of tuition. They have an amazing cross country course, over 120 acres of land (if I remeber correctly!) and everyday you can choose between dressage, show jumping or cross country tuition (2 sessions a day).

Look at Equestrian Escapes http://www.equestrian-escapes.com/

Their holiday in Cheshire is at my local riding school. The instructors are brilliant, all compete and are very experienced. They have helped me no end with my position- years of playing polo had made me sit in a very strange way. I highly recommend them :) The horses all compete and there are some very nice advanced horses as well as those which are more suited for beginners.

Equestrian Escapes will tailor the holiday to what you want to do- people normally have a lesson and a hack a day, but if you just wanted lessons they could do that.

I had a lesson at Lomond on Friday and it was fantastic. I went with my more advanced classical friend and we had perfectly matched horses. I am very crooked and tight but had been well and truly straightened out by the end.
