Hi guys,

A friend has a saddle she is unsure what it is e.g. jump, event , gp etc so looking for any help. It’s a GFS saddle we originally thought it was a GP but I have a GFS GP and it’s nothing like mine. We can’t figure it out . It’s old ish and well used so the marking have rubbed off . It has a very flat/low pommel but a rather high cantle. The seat doesn’t look as deep as my GP it’s very flat. Only has one D ring where as mine has a second one. The stirrup bars don’t seem as bulky as mine either . The girth cover only covers the back two straps of the 3 . Mine covers all 3. It has thigh blacks at the black on the under saddle which are from the bottom up to 3/4 of saddle. It’s not a straight cut saddle so not a dressage or show saddle . Any ideas ?
Just trying to settle my friend and her daughters saddle disagreements . Thanks

Could you post a picture of it as that would help.

I had a gfs event saddle which sounds a bit like the description I had one for my mare it was about 15 years ago so no idea if they still make them.

I think you maybe correct I have sone some research and it looks like a event saddle. It’s got an 0300 serial number so I think its old. Thanks

Many event saddles are just variations on GP/VSD so not a cross country saddle as you might expect, a very confusing term! A thigh block would potentially indicate a VSD rather than a GP, but it's impossible to say without seeing the saddle.
