I think I might have found dried ragwort in our hay. I'm pretty good at identifying the live stuff, but I'm unsure on the dried.

Does anyone think it might be? It's that rather distinctive leaf style on the little bits off the stalk that make me think it could be. I put it in oil to try and open the leaves up a bit...

Thanks!

do you have any dry samples? v hard to tell when it's covered in oil (?) like that. tbh it is pretty distinctive, I found quite a lot in a batch of hay last year (farmer paid for blood tests, herbal treatments etc, & fortunately mare hadn't eaten much) and it wasn't difficult to see, the leaves are distinctive, it just goes orangey colour when dry and the flowers/seeds were v obvious. can post pics if you want.

Okay thanks, it's probably not then. Phew! This stuff is a black/dark brown color. I don't have any more and didn't find any seed heads just leaves and stalk. I got worried because I found live plants on the property and they do their own hay.

If it's easy for you to post pictures that would be great. I plan to keep any eye out for awhile just in case. And this is the only photo I've been able to find.
