My poor 12yo husky collie x speyed bitch is having a first episode of this horrible condition. Right as rain 7.30am Wed, suddenly seemingly photophobic at 8.30 (eyes shut tight) when gently opened lateral nystagmus present but no other symptoms. Eating, drinking, weeing and pooing normally. Took to vets 5.40pm (too hot to travel big, heavy coated dog earlier). Vet diagnosis uveitis and prescribes eye drops and anti-inflammatories. Doesn't see any nystagmus. Thurs 1.00pm usual clinical signs appear suddenly - loss of co-ordination and balance but no head tilt. Symptoms worsen and poor doglet starts to exhibit nausea. Back to vets first thing Fri am and vet agrees vestibular disease. Anti-nausea drugs given. It's now Sun evening and symptoms seem to come and go a bit. Vet advised gentle exercise to help regain co-ordination and once she gets going on a straight line she seems almost normal but a bit wobbly on turns and while squatting. Still very keen to go for walk but appetite poor - feeding chicken and rice. Is there anything I can do to help her recovery or make her feel better while this episode lasts? Any advice very greatfully received.

It can take a few days before back to normal, for some they recover more quickly. Gentle exercise and food they like. Hope she’s better soon, don’t all develop head tilt. My 16 yo had an episode 2 years ago was quickly back to running around. Hope things improve soon.

Thanks Gallopingby and Sprout for your reassuring replies. She seems much better this morning. Its very strange that she can trot and canter looking absolutely fine and then wobble in walk - curious!
