Can anyone recommend a book that explains in idiots terms what all the terms for hooves mean and with examples of contracted heels etc?

I'm clueless about feet really, I'm not a "barefoot" person but have a pony with front shoes only, am not an evangelist about anything so don't want something that is anti or pro shoes.

I'm clued up about diet - fatty is on a high fibre, low sugar, supplemented regime etc - it's just I want something simple so can get a better assessment of what's good and bad, perferably with lots of pictures!

Thanks for the reply, no specific questions - I just want pictures and diagrams so I can learn the basics.

I love books though, want something I can look at offline - get sick of being online. So would like a good book rather than links really. Any suggestions?

The only ones I really know about are BF friendly ones.

Bearing in mind - no one author has all the answers.

I recommend Jaime Jackson's Horse Owners Guide to Natural Hoofcare...it's a first port of call for barefooters.

Feet First is worth a look.

The Under the Horse DVD box set is a must.http://www.hoofrehab.com/underthehorse.htm

I've been asked why the frog in the horse's foot is called a frog. I don't know. Do you?

No freaking clue

Plus of course if you already have any veterinary/physiology type text books like the BHS veterinary handbook, hayes veterinary guide for horse owners or even Brega's anat and phys of horses (though my tutor would shudder because it is full of mistakes, but has a good section on the structures in the hoof).
