Particularly, not for big clever horses.

Ernie thinks undoing quick release knots is a game. To be fair, his favourite hobby is escapology. I thought the Idolo would be a safe and horse-proof option. E realised gentle, constant pressure on the Idolo meant freedom.

Realising my mistake, today I used the Idolo the other way around for better resistance. Nope. Free range Ernie again.

I've rehomed the Idolo to a friend with a smaller, younger horse. I wish it had worked but we'll have to stick to strands of twine.

My niece's warmblood eventer worked it out in seconds....not such a dumbblood! My mare also worked it out but is ok if I thread the rope back through.

If you use a 12' rope (which is what they were designed for) then the horse has to back off a long way before they get free. Hopefully you'd spot them at it! I've had a few who worked this out - but we never leave a tied horse unattended for sufficiently long for them to free themselves from a 12' rope.
