Was talking bout friends youngster today.Hes 9 months old and has a habit of going up on his hind legs if he gets worried etc(he has done it on more than a few occasions now).
Now was wondering if this would be his 'thing' and would it carry on into adulthood or is it just youngster behaviour that he should hopefully outgrow?

sounds like youngster behavior to me.........be firm with him though but not too rough - he's still a baby after all!

sorry hope that doesn't sound too patronising.......it wasn't meant to be

I've found that horses tend to have certain ways of reacting - my old TB mare stops, backs and will rear, my unbroken 3yo Shire x TB will run away from things..
Generally they will have the same propensity in later life...so if you can dissuade him from rearing in hand, that would be useful.

No its ok it doesn't.
Friend is good with him is firm and tells him no.
It was just one of those random thoughts that come into your head most probably cos daughters horse if stressed would/will go up,wouldn't buck, kick you tho thats her thing.A horse before that bucking was her thing.so just wondered if they sort of come with that trait if you know what i mean

oh sorry..........yeah know what you mean now.....when F gets worried he runs away!

Apparently he did that when he was very young, ran away and jumped the 5 bar gate to his field..........so thats his 'thing'
