Would you still be a happy and fulfilled person? Could you accept never being able to be a part of the horse world in some form ever again in your life?

I have always had horses as a part of my life. For the brief part of my life in my twenties where I was not dierctly involved with horses I have to admit I felt sort of lost and like I was missing something. I still kept the passion for them strong inside me and knew my future HAD to have them in it.
I longed to have them in my life again.

How would you all cope? How serious is your passion and love for them?
Would it matter to you a great deal if life began tomorrow without horses as a part of it at all?

Well at the moment I am inbetween horses. Long story but basically my horse went out on loan last Saturday (as he is a fab jumper but I am more of a dressager!). My new horse (on loan to me) is coming next Saturday. This week has been such a long week and it feels so odd not having a horse! I miss my horse loads and I really hate not having a horse. As it is only a 2 week gap I thought it would be nice to do lots of non horsey things... however I find I am just counting down the days till next Saturday!! I think if I didn't have another horse to look forward to I would be really depressed! I guess I am still that pony mad kid at heart lol

I dont think i would be happy without them.
I dont have a horse ATM,I felt R and a horse would be fighting for time/money and diddnt want to do either half arsed so decided not to have horses for a while.
Never thought for a second there wouldnt be another hore in my future.

If it had been forced on me it woud hurt like hell, does at times now, lol.

No I would struggle a lot without my horse. I cannot think what I would take up instead to give me the same fulfilment and pleasure.

I've been through a rough patch with injury problems with my horse and have really thought about whether I should give it up. But at the end of the day I realised I wouldn't be happy without a horse - although I would be a lot better off!

I cant imagine not having my mare. I love looking at her sweet face, the smell and touch or her.
Every week I have to have my " fix "of H & H or other horsey mags.
When Im out in the car or on the train I am always looking in fields to see other horses.
I have a constant supply of Horse care books from the library.
Doesnt everyone feel like this.

Me too, and a car that doesn't look like a stable...oh, and holidays from time to time.

Every now and again I do wonder if I am quite mad sinking so much time and money into horses..but the simple fact is that they do give me so much pleasure. If they were gone form my life forever I would miss them horribly..but life would go on

I think It would be a big part of my life gone but you get on with life I guess.
Wouldnt miss having no money and would be able to afford a flash car lol.

My first horse was pts in April (rip Jake) so I thought I would have a year off from owning a horse (so I could have a holiday and nice fingernails! and a bit of cash). That lasted 3 months - I couldn't bear not having something to fuss over and worry about! Now I have got Jerry, I appreciate him so much because I know what it is like to be without a horse!

.....I would miss crawling out of bed at 5.30am and even better on a cold winter's day!

I have to say I had 15 years away from them, when I worked in London, and because I did not own one would not even buy a horse mag!

I would be very bored,i currently dont have a horse to ride but i have a mare and foal which take some of my time up but leave me able to have lots more spare money etc.

I do now have regular lessons in a riding school just to keep the memento going for when my baby is backed and broken.. in like 5 years time! :-( ages yet.

I can 100% honestly say that without horses in my life I might as well not be alive anymore - honestly they give me a reason to do everything, they are my life, my future, my career and Rocks is my best friend. I'm not a people person, never have been, and the horses are my best friends. Without them i'd be a miserable, lonely person.

I would be like a little lost sheep without my horse. My life really does fit in around my horse, im already starting to panic about me not having enough time when I start my new job.

I know just what you mean i live for my horses. Some people my think i am mad but i don't care, i'm sorry that's just how i feel.

i tried a break from horses for bout 5 years about 8 yrs ago after some problems - i kidded myself i didn't need to ride or be around horses anymore - fooled everyone around me but not myself - got to point where i wanted to drag other people of their horses as they rode by!! OH finally realised i was still actully pony mad and surprised me with a new horse!! she didn't suit in the end but now he's quite into riding as well and we've got 2 fab horses and i LOVE every minute of it! it keeps me sane and level after stresses of work and family life!

i had a twenty year gap without horses. After my mare died i just couldn't face another one and also i was working shifts, setting up home etc and it just wasn't practible. I really enjoy having my horse now, but have lots of other things in my life as well. So if having a horse becomes a chore i would sell up.

I could live without horses. They aren't my first loves; dogs are. I like having horses around though but yes I could easily find something else to feel fulfilled if I didn't have them.

I have never not had horses in my life, my grandad had horses so I was automaticaly around them as a child, I had my own by 11, I was riding competing and attending PC at 13, I bought Ed at 15. I would hate not having a horse in my life, I need to be around horses and ride other wise I feel as though I am doing nothing and feel very empty.

I wake up at 7 in the morning, leave my room and am straight into a yard of horses, i load the vans, shoeing all day long gt back about 7 then i ride me bosses horses and i get in bed at 10.. no horses.. no life.. no career.. I would fall apart. they are literally my life!

I cannot imagine what my life would be like without horses in it as I cannot remember a time when I didn't love being with them and riding. When I was really sick my horses were the one thing that made me smile. A friend of mine broke her neck a couple of years ago and can no longer ride, care for a horse. Her family sold her dream horse and I don't think I could cope if the same happened to me..

I could cope without them, I might be bored more often though! But that doesn't mean I would ever want to be without Chex, the thought of losing him is just too awful

. I would still be the same person without horses, and I don't think I'd be missing out. Horses are just a big pet to me (a very expensive pet!)

I have been without a horse now for 4 months. As an amateur event rider I haven't competed since last July! My mum and I recently went to Gatcombe, the first event i've been to since Badminton, (but I still had a horse then), and I had severe withdrawl symptoms, especially when hearing the pounding of horses galloping past you and watching their faces whilst they approach the next fence and getting goose bumps all over me when they make it to the other side, safe and sound.
So the answer is, at this point in time, I terribly miss not having my own horse, not being able to compete and get that adrenalin rush and buzz when you cross the finish line, for me, that is what it's all about and I can't wait to have my companion and friend back again.
