Despite the fact that I don't actually have a springer yet, more three over-keen terriers, I loved this book, it taught me a lot, and reminded me of many qualities of your partnership with your dog, that I have perhaps lost over the years.
Could you recommend any good general dog non fiction training / behavioural books for general reading please?

Try Hutchinson's "Dog Breaking". If possible the 10th Edition published in 1845 (written by a cavalry man) as it has foot notes on the foot notes! Don't be put off by the title. Lots of lovely stories and anecdotes and he covers all gundog breeds.

"Training Spaniels for Sport", by Carlton. Republished by The Field.

Books by Peter Moxon, Keith Erlandson, etc.

Lots out there. Ask your local librarian. That's what they are for!
