Getting sick of keeping my horse at livery but unfortunately don't have the facilities to keep him at home so I started dreaming.... if money was no object and you could build your perfect yard from scratch what would it be like? And whereabouts in the UK (or even the world!) would you build it?

Hmm, it would be a cottage down a quiet country lane somewhere, with lots of bridleways and fields to ride across. I would have about 6 acres split into two paddocks with a large shelter in each. I would have a school or grass riding paddock, tack/feed room, hay barn and a large indoor school/barn. I would also have two donkeys, my own plus a youngster donk, and I would have a riding/driving pony and an elderly horse who likes cuddles and hacking. Maybe a nice Shetland too for showing.

Id build a yard in or very near the new forest, roughly 30stables, with tonnes of fields. Id buy all the ponies ive known and fallen in love with in the past, run a riding school and breed.

Near us is a run down empty house, lovely big country home, i would love to buy it do it up. Put in a large stable block, comes with about 30 arces of ground. Would be nice to go up the drive and see my horsies out munching. Or look out in the morning and see them standing waiting for brekkie!

Waresley Park would do me for starters...

i think it's only £6m, but unforch my lottery ticket didn't win on Sat.

umm, i'd like long uphill all-weather gallops, huge stables all 15'x15', shelters in every turnout, xc courses, seawalker, equine swimming pool, solarium, huge tackroom, heated rug room, huge heated indoor school, even huger outdoor school, full set of BSJA showjumps, lorry parking, large house to tempt my trainer to move over here permanently, and loads of lovely cottages for visiting students for him, and for my team of wonderful very highly-paid staff.
and a mobile home for me would do if i'd run out of money by then! otherwise a nice log cabin or a mini-castle, like a folly, so i could sleep in a turret and look out of the windows at all my boys and girls turned out all around.
well, you did say if money was no object...
wink.gif

oh, and i think i'd build it at the edge of the New Forest, or Cannock Chase, or somewhere with unlimited safe hacking, but 5 mins from a motorway to all the events.

I would build it here. I would have about 30 acres of grazing land, and would have a medium-sized barn in the field as a masive field shelter. There would be a xc course and a grass sj ring (special grass that doesn't churn up). Thats about it really!

I'd stay in the Cotswolds as it is the perfect location for competitive dressage with loads of competition venues and tops trainers around
smile.gif

I will have an american barn system with 16 large stables, all with rubber matting, all with top half doors that enable the horses to look outside the barn, hay bars to prevent their hay from getting kicked around and automatic waterers. 20 x60 indoor & outdoor arenas and a 8 horse walker as well. This is all going to be set on a minimum of 25 acres of established pasture. Oh, and I will have my own resident german olympic team member as my live in dressage trainer & 3 grooms to keep my horses in top condition....

Hmmmmmmm! Think I had better win the jackpot on the euromillions - not sure if the normal lottery would finance all that!

re: kerilli, will you take liveries?!!!

haha, since money will be no object, because a sheik will have decided the fund the whole enterprise in perpetuity, anyone can come and stay for free for as long as they like...

Hmmm, yes Cotswolds, period stone house, 4 bedrooms all with ensuite and special 'annexe' for my OH for when I get sick of him!

Half dozen stables also in stone, but all of the 30 or so acres would be divided into large paddocks with field shelter in each. Large indoor school with one side open. Unlimited off road riding, equine pool or hydro spa in preference to a horse walker, wash box and solarium.........

I like the yard we are at, nice large stables, large arena, built in drinkers, hay racks and YO put stable toys up (Tongue twisters) so all we do is supply the lik-its for it.

All i would change up there is an isolation block for new horses coming in, a walker and change the arena to a indoor arena!

instead of stables, barns! as in massive massive loose boxes... stabling for 25 horses... with a big covered isle for tying up and grooming/feeding/clipping ect

i would have a massive indoor arena, two huge outdoors plus a round pen, an XC course, fab painted matching showjumps... and hundreds of acres of post and rail fenced paddock, with the grass trimmed by hundreds of garderners and grooms..... also a racetrack/gallops! hah, dreaming
tongue.gif

it would probably be somewhere where it's still wild, like some parts of ireland and wales... near a big lake for swimming, a massive beach for sandy gallops...

I'd have loads and loads of hilly fields, and breed minis!!!

I'd have a couple of riding/driving horses for me.

Massive field shelters and a couple of stables.

A huge indoor school with full set of showjumps!

An outdoor school for a bit of variety.

A XC course.

A wash down/solarium area.

Dreams dreams

I'm happy where I am but would like to buy the next field and build an indoor school, and I would like a log cabin on-site to live in.

oo my dream place sounds exactly the same as yours kerrili, when do we move in?
grin.gif
could we have a nice indoor barn, with adjoining indoor school, and adjoining field on the other side, a little bit like wembley stadium with a roof that goes over when it rains, so when it's cold, wet and windy neither me or Flash has to go outside
