Is possibly the biggest compliment I heard last year. Have you ever been told anything similar and just felt that warm glow of satisfaction that your horse was not a ready made one?

That was in relation to the lovely Reg, who is a product of my sister's had work and determination. He is amazing, and the fact he's now nice enough to be considered a ready-made horse is pretty awesome.

2012 was actually quite a difficult year for them, with their dressage and XC going from strength to strength but a massive confidence knock SJ left them reeling. But 2013 is now here and I made this video for them- my sister gave me some new editing software for Christmas so this was my thank you! Lots of buttons to learn to play with!

My YouTube appears to be having issues so not seen film yet. But to answer your question, yes, & its lovely. Trying to explain what both were originally like gets looks of disbelief. It's been said about my 14.2 who I got as a 2yr old when I was 10 plenty of times. And daughters pony who I bought for £10 as a yearling with lots of issues. Was backed by daughter who was 6 at the time, & she's done all the riding since, & we've had that comment at kids fun shows from parents.

I love reg! :D he's an utter dude but you know I thought that any way.

A few people have made comments about YP, generally people that don't know him or where we started. Theres the whole you do to much crew or he's not capable of that group as well. Or the he's so easy you let an 8 year old ride him (despite the fact her own pony is attempting the record for baddest pony in the fens). Then again I have one friend refuse to get on him as she's only ever seen him be naughty :o

A few times about b1 who I bought as a 2 year old and backed and brought on myself. She just seemed to know things as if she's been a grade a show jumper in a past life. B1 and B2 between them were barely more than a grand but I get compliments about both. Makes me warm and fuzzy. :-)

Everyone seems to think MM is really easy. Sometimes it irritates me as some people seem to think that because I'm a nervous jumper, that I'm also a nervous rider generally which certainly isn't the case. MM was given to me about 5 years ago, having had 6 years out in the field, labelled as a dangerous nutter. She has taken a lot of hard work, determination and patience to get to the stage she is at now - the stage where u CAN put almost anyone on her for a plod round (my completely novice can-just-about-manage-rising-trot-on-a-good-day hubby will occasionally ride her) and I often pop my 13 month old daughter up in front of me. But I'm proud of myself and the moose for everything and wouldn't change her for the world :)

It's good to know there are these crews all over, I thought they just liked to give me the benefit of their 'experience' :o;)

I love Reg updates :) Looking forward to hearing more about the very pretty Bee too.

Fabulous, an real compliment and you and your sister should be very proud!

I used to get comments about how it was easy for me as I had Tom, my coloured cob (rip). My trainer used to go postal about it as she just used to say no, GI just makes him look easy.

Mind you, some of them changed their minds when working in at a dressage competition he literally ****ed off at a gallop broncing like a loon the full legnth of the 60m arena ..... I had upset the little lamb by daring not to take him out of the wagon IMMEDIATELY!

I've been told a couple of times that Henry is a fantastic pony and one person said, "It's ok for you, your pony is really well behaved", when hers was playing up.

Thing is, he might be bombproof and safe as houses, now, but when I got him he bombed OFF at anything other than a car (motorbikes, vans, buses, logs...). He napped for England and once bucked me clean over his head. I must have been on drugs to persevere with this one, lol! :D

We're hoping that Bee gets the same compliments, only her love of a cheeky buck and spin probably counts her out :D RebelRebel, Al says thanks! He's taught her to ride well, whilst learning to be a normal horse.

It's lovely to hear of so many stories :)

dafthoss, people who think you're pushing YP too hard need a quick slap with a wet fish ;)

Well done:) it's lovely when that happens.
I share my friend's cob and he's not been very good with her, bucking and generally bolshyness, but is always well behaved with me on board.
She recently showed me a video of a girl riding a blind horse. It was very touching and an example of complete trust between horse and rider. She then made me cry because she said ' that is how I see you with B, he trusts you completely'. I didn't realise she felt like that and was very touched that that was how she saw my relationship with him. :)

Lovely horses - great rider!

Really shocked though that someone would make that comment. I would actually find it a bit of an insult. Its like they think you are not capable to have brought them on yourselves!

One of my proudest moments was when I was warming up at a local show on a youngster I took a bit of a punt on.
He came to me as 'dangerous' he was difficult to handle & so confused his default when ridden was to rear & spin.
I knew I'd managed to iron out most of his issues & uncovered a nice horse....but I still had this nagging doubt I wasn't good enough for him.
Whilst I was at this show a well respected local rider told me he was a lovely horse & that he obviously had a lot of confidence in my riding.
Meant more than any rosette that comment :)

Al has done such a good job with him!

A couple of moments like that stood out with my late mare, my little grey TB.

It was one of our last shows together before she got sick and I was told by one of the other competitors how jealous she was that my horse was so relaxed and well behaved and she wished hers was like that :D.

I was also told by a livery at my yard 'well your horse is a real go anywhere, do anything horse isn't she, she doesn't have any vices!'

Hee no one knew what an absolute horror she was when she was younger! The blood, sweat and tears it took but she really did pay me back 100 fold as she was a fabulous mare who gave me some super moments, I will never forget her.

I get comments on Jae all the time about what a cool dude he is and how they cannot believe he is a TB as he is so easy. He has taken work and I have tried my best with him but he always been a fairly straightforward horse unlike my fiesty little grey!!

Nah, it's a compliment even if it's all backwards :D

A lady at my yard who has a tough time with her horse said in a not well meaning way, "why cant I have a ready made horse like yours". This is my ex flat racer bought straight from the track, spent hours retraining to be a BS/ BD horse. Clearly she thought that my racehorse had come straight from racing knowing everything, she didn't see the blood sweat and tears that went into producing this horse!

Feel proud of horse and myself. Feel proud when nice people comment on how well we are doing. :)

We bought knobberpony very cheaply as the vendor said that although they loved her,she didn't jump high enough for their daughter. She was 21 when we bought her and knew every trick in the book, she'd refuse, plant, nap, but my daughters persevered and after 6 months of riding her nearly every day,she suddenly became easier.

We took her to a show jumping rally when we'd had her about 8 months and my eldest got a clear round on her for the first time ever.Another parent came up to me and said 'That isn't knobberpony, who used to belong to the xxxx's is it?' I replied that yes,it was and she was astounded. She'd known the pony for years with the previous owners and said that she'd never seen her jump like that. She said she couldn't believe it was the same pony, she was so fit and forward going and told me how well my daughter rode her.I was so pleased,it hadn't been easy, with lots of tears from frustration along the way,but the old girl was worth it.

This is it for Reg and Al exactly- he was a scrappy ex-racer fresh off the track, and now he's a superstar showing horse who is pretty awesome at the eventing malarkey. The idea he was ready made is pretty cool :D

(ex-racer love is alive and well over here!)

mirage, that's so lovely :) It's also awesome when people don't recognise a horse/ pony and ask after 'the new one' :D

They always love to give you their thoughts and experiance on the matter  despite every one else thinking diffrent

Of course Bee will get the same compliments!

Just a quick slap? :p

ETA I spied my trailer in the video :D

Well done Al (and you and your Mum for all the back up work you do too). Reg is looking fab. Can't wait to see Bee. S is hoping to perhaps get out on Bill this year, he can now canter on both legs without falling over (just about). We are hoping he will be a late bloomer!!!

I remember at a Carousel show a few years ago someone was saying they wanted a 2nd pony just like Flicka. It was quite handy that one of the old 'Tully Lodgers' was with us and remonstrated how F used to scare the beejeezers out of her and could bronc for England. Flick's just gave her 'who me?' look and fell back to sleep!

Naww! It can be the Bill and Bee show, with legs flying and lanky riders trying to pretend it's all meant to be happening like that :D Thank you, 'Team Reggie' (he's got a proper entourage now!) is a team effort at all times. Al just got the bad luck in being the one who can actually ride, lol.

And Flicka was so naughty! Her and Patrick gave everyone grey hairs :D
