Hiya,

Just looked at an ifor 506 and it looked plenty big enough for my horse, however, she is a warmblood, 16.2 and possibly still growing (she's 6).

But looking on their website they say 506 is for under 16.2
Do any of you take biggish horses in a 506? Is it a length thing as that seems to be the main difference between that and the 511 ? Do I really need a 511?

Lots of questions - Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

My mare is A 16hh2 hanovarian x mare and I have found that the 505/506 is too small for her width wise. She really struggled to get her balance, it was awful. I have travelled her on her own, without the partition and full length breast and breech bars, just to the vets and she was much better.

She has also been in a 511 and the difference was amazing. You didn't even know she was there.

If it was me, and she is quite wide, I personally would go for the 510/511.

I hope that helps.

You are pushing it with a 506, it may do but it is smaller length wise height wise and width wise. Personally I would hold out for a larger trailer.

We happened to find a decent 505 for our then pony, an 11.2, still got it 6 or 7 years later, and our '16.1' warmblood does fit in, just. She travels fine, and only ever bashes her head on the roof when she is being silly (she does have giraffe-like ability at times). However she's grown height wise and folk reckon she might be almost 17h now. However she is very slim. Slim to the point folk ask if she is meant to be that slim (no ribs showing mind you). She travels absolutely fine in it - I know this because she rarely poos in transit much like the 14h NF who almost never poos and also travels extremely well, whereas she ties herself in knots in anticipation prior to loading and always evacuates bowls first several times, much like our 13.2 however he doesn't like travelling much and always poos en route. One day we'll replace it with something bigger but probably it'll be a lorry. If going any distance (we rarely go more than 30-40mins) we'd hire something bigger I think.

My 16.3 4yo (who became a 17.1 6YO) fitted OK :) He only took a 6'6 rug though, and was narrow, couldn't have been much longer...
