If sending a horse away for assessment- when would you normally pay?

As in the title, if sending your horse away for a weeks training assessment to a professional, when would you normally pay their fees? Weekly and in advance, or in arrears?

And after the assessment, if say the horse was staying for a month, or 6 weeks what is the normal?

To be honest, I would have no idea but would assume in arrears?

However I expect it all just depends on who you send your horse to for the assessment

This is a service that we offer, we're in the same area as you, and we operate on the following basis.

Normally, 1 X weeks assessment, which costs £100, payable upfront. This can be longer if both parties feel it is beneficial to do so, ie horse been out of work, can be naughty whatever.


After the assessment period if everyone in agreeance with the way forward, the weekly livery remains at £100 per week and is payable 4 weekly in advance, and continues until the desired result is achieved. If the horse is to be sold and sells before the 4 week period is up, then any unused livery is refunded.

when i sent my mare away, i paid nothing until i collected her (well until she went from being schooling livery to a normal livery) we agreed 2 weeks to begin with and decided that she would benefit from and extra week i still wasn't billed until the 3 weeks where up. however i was a friend of a livery so it maybe that she trusted me to pay.
