...I would have won it today, without question! I wasn't even meant to be working today, but I went down to ride and decided to be helpful and fill a few haynets and stuff while I was there. I managed to let two horses escape in the space of about 10 minutes.
First a horrible little chestnut mare barged out while I was coming in to the field with 2 haynets and I had to call the YO, who was inside having lunch, to help me catch her. Then I went to get Scooby out and the wind caught the gate and blew it wide open as I was trying to close it, so one of his fieldmates trotted out before I could close it! I tried to make Scooby block him in but he's too much of a wimp so he leapt out of the way, nearly crushing me.
It's alright though, they were both returned safely to their fields/stables and my boss found it funny, so all is well. It did not ruin the lovely day I had planned.
What did mar it slightly was falling over in deep, sloppy mud.
Turns out that getting your welly stuck in the mud has a very similar effect to having your shoelaces tied together when you try to walk.
But, I got my ride, Scooby was good, we jumped the same jump three times without knocking it down once (wahey!), so I'm still happy.
