I'd be very grateful and will willingly hand out virtual cookies/cakes/etc. You can be as detailed or quick as you like, all answers are massively appreciated as just want to get an idea of what different people want from livery yards. Thanks a million :D

(If you'd rather answer by PM as other liveries from your yard are on HHO, feel free!)

What facilities do you consider a necessity for you and your horse at a livery yard? (e.g. arena)

What extra ‘luxury’ facilities, presuming you don’t consider them necessities as above, do you have/would you like your yard to have to have in an ideal world? (e.g. rug drying room)

How much extra would you consider paying for those ‘luxuries’?

What, if any, are you major dislikes about your current livery yard/livery yards in general, or what factors have caused you to leave previous livery yards in the same area?

What type of livery are you on? (e.g. DIY)

How did you find your current livery yard? (e.g. word of mouth, tack shop advert)

How many horses do you have at livery and what are your main activities?

***You don’t have to answer these last 2 questions if you would prefer not to, but it would help to give an idea of approximate prices in different areas of the country :D ***

What county are you based in?

Approximately how much do you pay for your livery? (If on DIY with assistance, how much are you charged for the assistance?)

Thanks a million :D

- shower, clean and nice toilet, indoor school (I wish!).

How much extra would you consider paying for those ‘luxuries’?
- no idea at all.

What, if any, are you major dislikes about your current livery yard/livery yards in general, or what factors have caused you to leave previous livery yards in the same area?
- I like that we can do what we want, when we want, and that I have enough horses there to have my 'own' field to manage as I wish.
- I have left previous yards due to grazing issues, management issues and cost.

What type of livery are you on? (e.g. DIY)
- DIY for two and grass livery for two.

How did you find your current livery yard? (e.g. word of mouth, tack shop advert)

Extra £5 or maybe abit more a week

What, if any, are you major dislikes about your current livery yard/livery yards in general, or what factors have caused you to leave previous livery yards in the same area?
No dislikes about the yard i am on at the min, love it! I think the main problem with alot of livery yards is no set rules/strong manager, so free for all and the one who is the biggest bully/largest mouth tends to (or at least tries to!) get the best of everything (especially turnout - which always seems to be a troublesome area!)

What type of livery are you on? (e.g. DIY)
DIY with assistance

How did you find your current livery yard? (e.g. word of mouth, tack shop advert)
Word of mouth

How many horses do you have at livery and what are your main activities?
2. Dressage, PC, RC and Hacking

What county are you based in? South Yorkshire

Approximately how much do you pay for your livery? (If on DIY with assistance, how much are you charged for the assistance?)
£30 for my pony and £36 for my horse a week in the winter. Including ad lib hay/haylage (and ad lib in the field) and straw. And feeding, rugs changed and turned out in the morning in the week. All day turnout in winter in private electric fenced fields.
£20 for both in the summer (on 24/7 turnout).

Necessities: well-maintained arena, permanent electric fencing, roomy stabling, safe local hacking, friendly experienced staff, toilet.

Luxuries: rug drier, wash room, solarium. Included in present livery.

Dislikes/reasons for leaving: rabbit warren in field, staff being rough with horses, overcrowded grazing.

On part livery at moment for one horse. Found through local ad. Hacking, schooling.

Location: Hampshire. Cost: £110 a week. Includes everything apart from riding, tack cleaning, wormers and hard feed, vet and farrier. Expensive, but very high standards.

What facilities do you consider a necessity for you and your horse at a livery yard? (e.g. arena)
Hard standing/Parking, Loos, Lockable tack room, all year turnout, good fencing, arena, excellent hacking, mains water to fields and stables
What extra ‘luxury’ facilities, presuming you don’t consider them necessities as above, do you have/would you like your yard to have to have in an ideal world? (e.g. rug drying room)
Showers, XC course, all weather gallops, show jumps, drying room, horse wash area, solarium
How much extra would you consider paying for those ‘luxuries’?
No idea
What, if any, are you major dislikes about your current livery yard/livery yards in general, or what factors have caused you to leave previous livery yards in the same area?
could be closer to home, could have a better arena surface (not grass!)
What type of livery are you on? (e.g. DIY)
part livery, as my parents do the rest! :eek:
How did you find your current livery yard? (e.g. word of mouth, tack shop advert)
n/a
How many horses do you have at livery and what are your main activities?
1, and my sisters horse. Hunting, eventing, SJ
What county are you based in?
north Yorks
Approximately how much do you pay for your livery? (If on DIY with assistance, how much are you charged for the assistance?)
Half of haylage and bedding costs, £10 a month towards fencing etc, plus OH and I do the horses 3 or 4 days a week and my parents do the other half.

What facilities do you consider a necessity for you and your horse at a livery yard? (e.g. arena)
* Well maintained, all year round grazing
* Safe, well built stables that are a decent size
* Some kind of storage area for feed, rugs, tools ect... near to stable
* School with a good surface (if outdoor, then with lights)
* Jumps
* Running water and mains electricity
* Starvation paddock/smaller paddock if recovering from injury
* Toilet
* Yard MUST be safe and secure, preferably with someone on site 24/7.

What extra ‘luxury’ facilities, presuming you don’t consider them necessities as above, do you have/would you like your yard to have to have in an ideal world? (e.g. rug drying room)
* Indoor school is always a bonus!
* Shower/wash area
* Horsewalker
* Secure tack room is always nice, saves carrying tack backwards and forwards between home and yard. Wouldn't consider this essential though as long as we had somewhere to keep rugs, boots etc... For example, outside all of our stables we have a walled area about 6x4ft with an lockable old chest freezer to keep feed, rugs & general bits n bob in.
* Rug drying room
* Solarium (i can dream...)

How much extra would you consider paying for those ‘luxuries’?
*Not sure, a fair amount depending on what extra facilities the yard had.

What, if any, are you major dislikes about your current livery yard/livery yards in general, or what factors have caused you to leave previous livery yards in the same area?

* No particular dislikes with current yard, have left several times to try out others and always end up going back as i think it's the best around our area by a longshot. :) Only thing i could say is i would adjust worming program slightly to include more egg counts instead of worming in spite of whether it is really necessary or not, but one of my big bugbears is worming so i would probably say this about most yards.
* Have moved from others due to them having 30ish acres but most of it was grazed all year round rather than rotated and was on very steep hills and i just didnt like that way it was managed and their school being too small and unuseable in winter, and another as it was also a riding school and there were too many horses to a field. They always crowded the gate when 1 came in & it was getting dangerous in the end. Oh, and there was barbed wire on the fencing.

What type of livery are you on? (e.g. DIY)
* DIY

How did you find your current livery yard? (e.g. word of mouth, tack shop advert)
*Friends keep their horses there and recommended it when i was looking

How many horses do you have at livery and what are your main activities?
* 2, both on DIY. 1 is just being backed but will hopefully event next year, the other is 12 but has a few issues so isn't in work at the moment. When she does get brought back in though i think she will only hack, do a bit of dressage and low level SJ.

*£1 turnout/bring in
* 50p change rugs
* 50p feed/do haynets
* £7 for full livery on individual days

What facilities do you consider a necessity for you and your horse at a livery yard? (e.g. arena)

Individual all year turnout, stable, decent sized arena, preferably XC field, good hacking, toilet, running water, mains electric and lockable tack/feed stores (All can be found at most liveries I've been to)

What extra ‘luxury’ facilities, presuming you don’t consider them necessities as above, do you have/would you like your yard to have to have in an ideal world? (e.g. rug drying room)

More than one arena (not keen on riding when the kids are charging round) ability to hire one of the liveries horse boxes

How much extra would you consider paying for those ‘luxuries’?

Not a lot more petrol money etc for horse box and £10-15 for school hire

What, if any, are you major dislikes about your current livery yard/livery yards in general, or what factors have caused you to leave previous livery yards in the same area?

An instructor at previous livery yard decided that as all the RS ponies were either done for the day or up the field that they would use my loan pony without mine or the ponies owners consent :mad: . Lack of decent arena and hacking, no individual turnout option

What type of livery are you on? (e.g. DIY)

Part livery with option to put on schooling or working livery

How did you find your current livery yard? (e.g. word of mouth, tack shop advert)

* An arena with a good surface is essential!
* Decent quality turnout with safe fencing and fresh water points.
* Stables in good repair.
* Easy access to safe hacking

What extra ‘luxury’ facilities, presuming you don’t consider them necessities as above, do you have/would you like your yard to have to have in an ideal world? (e.g. rug drying room)

* Secure Tack room ( I would probably still take my saddle home though)
* Rug drying room
* Undercover grooming / tie up area for farriers in wet weather
* Access to warm water for washing horses
* Indoor Arena and Outdoor Arena
* lunge pen

How much extra would you consider paying for those ‘luxuries’?

What facilities do you consider a necessity for you and your horse at a livery yard? (e.g. arena)
All year secure turnout, limited number of horses in fields, Good quality hay and straw (as its included in my livery price), good sized stables ideally with drinkers, well maintained floodlit arena, access to good hacking, secure tackroom, feedroom and toilet. Oh, and like minded people! And staff that you are happy to handle your horse and that would phone you immediately were there a problem

What extra ‘luxury’ facilities, presuming you don’t consider them necessities as above, do you have/would you like your yard to have to have in an ideal world? (e.g. rug drying room)

We do have a rug room but heating rarely on which defeats object! Nice and clean tearoom and toilet. Acess to hot water would be great. Yard horsebox that liveries can hire. Spare fields so ours can have a rest!

I do like my livery yard, there are only 4 other horses there though, with 3 owners and sometimes I wish there were more people to ride out with. The hacking is not great either, we only have a couple of bridleways around, and only 1 circular route. It's super clean and tidy though, which has its good and bad side.

***You don’t have to answer these last 2 questions if you would prefer not to, but it would help to give an idea of approximate prices in different areas of the country ***

What county are you based in?
East Sussex
Approximately how much do you pay for your livery? (If on DIY with assistance, how much are you charged for the assistance?)
25 per week for full grass eg feed, hay, rugging etc. 'tis a good deal as far as I'm concerned!

(e.g. arena)
A secure tack room, good turnout and an arena

What extra ‘luxury’ facilities, presuming you don’t consider them necessities as above, do you have/would you like your yard to have to have in an ideal world? (e.g. rug drying room)
A rug room, second arena, jumps to use

How much extra would you consider paying for those ‘luxuries’?
not much extra to be honest

What, if any, are you major dislikes about your current livery yard/livery yards in general, or what factors have caused you to leave previous livery yards in the same area?
The yard I am on now is fab. The previous yard I left because I was fed up with the lack of arena, and not much hacking

What type of livery are you on? (e.g. DIY)
Grass livery

How did you find your current livery yard? (e.g. word of mouth, tack shop advert)
Vet lives on site and I was registered with the vet

How many horses do you have at livery and what are your main activities?
I just have one, we do mainly schooling, but enjoy jumping and do a bit of hacking too
