If you died today...

My Instructor will have my horse, with financial provision made. He will then take one of the dedicated people who help at his yard and get them competing with her longterm. She will never be used as a school horse. All arranged!!

you would be a very good home for any of my horses.

I have actually only gifted two horses both to one person, most are to be sold and the money to be used to pay for the keep of a few that are never to be sold and will be kept by my family.

My mum would look after Chex, he would never be sold or anything. He's technically hers anyway, I just look after him! He would be retired, but she might still walk him up the track every now and again.

i havent got a horse

and if i did die my mum would be devastated (obviously) but because she never got to fulfil my dreams of getting a horse.

my dad on the other hand, if i did have a horse and died, would sell it and spend the money on himself (yes you read right he'd spend it all on himself)

I've 'willed' any horses I own to the ILPH, I think youre supposed to be a life member but have also willed them a chunk of my estate, more than enough to keep them if the need arose.

I have made it perfectly clear that my coloured would go to Becca, my Mum doesn't need the hassle of anything else and my tack and stuff can be hers to do as she likes with, but Bec is the only person I could trust to take Oshk on and get the hunting he needs.

Very specific arrangements are specified in my Will for my mare. She will be retired (i.e. no longer ridden), supported from my estate on the regime that she is on at the time I pop my clogs unless change would be beneficial to her health - in which case the matter should be discussed with the VET (to prevent yard busy bodies inapropriately influencing my non-horsey relatives).

I've got homes sorted for mine...and I also think I'm down to inherit my friend's strange gelding....
I think it was just an insurance policy - we reckon that if either of us ends up needing CPR that even after the doctors have given up we'll still be frantically trying to resuscitate each other...just to avoid inheriting each other's horse.

Now's here's a question that you never really think about, but should.. My best friend would sort out the horsey side of things or my behalf, should any thing happen to me!! god for-bid

they would go back to previous owners, im still in contact with them, max our wb would stay at current yard and enjoy a quiet life with kids fussing him. hed go no where (previous person was a dealer and not a very nice one!)

Gosh I've not thought about it? It's possible he might go back to his previous owner, or my best friend who is horseless might take him, I need to think about this. I'm sure no-one on here would like the gorgeous one?.........!

my friend on the yard would have solo- she rides him when im at work and loves him. we have already discussed that- but not in-depth! red would go to the bf- his rightful owner- but i dont know if he'd carry on riding or if he'd have red as a pet.

LOL! That's why I'd have mine PTS - I wouldn't want to inflict their weirdness on anyone else!!!

Nobody likes my horses - sob!

My trainer

would be the first unfortunate soul who could refuse to take him
smirk.gif
Then it would be a friend from the yard who could leave him in a field for the rest of his days/until her kids are old enough to ride or I'd have to have a rethink. It changes from year to year what would happen to him. I'd like for him to have a useful life competing and having fun but he'd probably be happy turned out and left to eat forever and a day.

I guess my parents (horses are kept at home) would have to sell mine as they have no interest in keeping / riding horses. I think they'd probably keep my 2 old ponies as we couldn't trust anybody else to look after them (they have various things wrong with them!) but my 2 horses would be sold Id think. But Id trust my mum that she'd choose the best home possible for them.

Hey, I can ask mum just to give him straight to you. Oh lucky you!!

after my accident last year I sat down one afternoon and wrote a very quick note for my parents about this very topic.
Just says that if the horses do kill me one day like my mother keeps warning (!) then I want my dogs to live with my parents and the horse would have to sold.

My parents aren't horsey so I put an approximate value down and said what sort of home she would suit. Also that she wasn't to be sold to my boss and used on the school !!!!! Note lives in the safe with all my bank stuff.

This is odd because I have in front of me a will form I have been trying to fill out for days! It is so much more difficult than I first thought.
Of course the only thing I am stuck on is what to do with the horses. The house etc are no problems. But who on earth can I inflict 9 horses on? I think I will tell my mum to keep the main 4. She can then sell off the other 5 to finance keeping the others. However, knowing my Mum she wouldn't be able to sell any of them and will end up having a herd of feral horses running havoc across her property

I like to think my horse's have a home for their life, but my OH isn't the most horsiest of people...hmm

I just need to be sure i don't die and everything will be fine
wink.gif

When is it time to write a will? what happens if you die before you do?

I have thought about it but not spoken to anyone about it.
I would want Gin to go to a young dressage rider on loan. I dont want her to be sold. I would trust my instructor to find her a nice home or failing that, any takers????
