If you don't like Cob or TB buy a WB. Why not?

There has been an anti TB thread and an anti Cob thread. I think we should all have a WB, preferably a continental one :p

Afterall aren't they the most talented of all horses? They can be fine or weight carriers, SJ, dressage or XC and are renown for their intelligence. :D

Discuss.

Well I have a tb who is 31 and he has been an absolute star the whole of the 28 years I have had him.
Hubby bought me a German Hano to do dressage on. Whilst he is a lovely horse he has been high maintenance ever since I got him. He does the job he was bought for perfectly but man, do I have to work hard with him on and off!!

My horse is stabled next to a warmblood and he is the thickest horse I have ever come across. I do know really that not all warmbloods are that stupid, but I wouldn't want to take the chance.
Plus I like the look of tbs far more, although my preference is for a tb x native. That way you get brains and agility.

Its like most things in life there down to personal prefrences whether horse breed, make of car, lorry, food, so my take is if you like a breed and it works for you great Im glad we're all different.....

Yes get a warmblood :-) They are awesome... Better still get one with a lot of TB and hanno blood in - big paces and with TB stamina.

And they are not dumb! Mine is the most clever horse I have ever met, he runs rings around me some days... uh oh what does that say about me ;-)

Would be dull if we liked the same horses eh? Each to their own!

Well I have a WB, KWPN Gelderlander and a cold blood, A trait Ardennais ( Ardennes)

My WB is a 17-3hh woss, hates the cold and wet and does not like to leave his stable when it is less than 60 degrees! He is talented but very stressy, with extravagant paces and a real "look at me" style, he is also scared of his own shadow and anything else that is a potential horse eater! He can be bargy and will stress/stroop/spook at the drop of a hat. He is also the most intelligent animal I have ever met, he is a problem solver and learns incredibly quickly!

My Ardennes is an almost totally bombproof hack, I only say almost because we have yet to find anything she is scared of but there is no such thing as a bombproof horse all the time. She is an absolute sweetheart in and out of the stable.

Both do their jobs and it really is a case of "horses for courses"

Well, I have three German WB, and they couldn't be more different.

I love all horses but, for what I want to do, I *need* a WB. Yes there might be TBs doing advanced dressage but, frankly, it's much easier with a horse bred to do the job.

Frodo is the second most intelligent horse I have ever met (first place has to go to an Arab), Rauti is the gentlest and soundest.

I hate generalisations and stereotypes as you can see :)

Cappy is incredibly sound as well, never been lame *touches wood* I personally think WBs excel at dressage because they are bred with the paces, but you can't beat an ISH or TBx over a XC course.

I'm a convert after being a furry pony hugger for a long time. Will deffinately have another and quite fancy a Fjord punky pony right now as well lol

Don't suppose you had chance to go to FN ?

I wasn't impressed with the Dutch warmblood I had. He was small, narrow, spooky and difficult. OTOH I am very impressed with the German warmblood I have. He is massive, has a great big shoulder, powerful, nearly bombproof and totally non-spooky. And also very doting and affectionate to me, which helps! But I am only judging from two, which isn't exactly a big cross-section!

A WB I used to loan was actually the stupidest horse I have ever come across....no WB's for me thank you!! Although tbh it's the same with any breed of horse.

I much prefer ISH or connemara crosses!
And also arab crosses as my favourite previous horses have been arab x appaloosa and arab x new forest :)

Someone once described a Warmblood to me as a cross between a Tb and a Cob. There you are best (or worst) of both worlds, take your pick.

I wouldn't consider one because they are big buggers and I couldn't ride one side of them, just too big all round for me. Give me an Arab or QH any day, small and compact suits me.

I think you should have started this thread by saying
Warmbloods are the stupid boring horses with no recognisable breeding..only
fit for riding schools.. and no one should own them....!!now that might have incited a reaction,!!
I have a dutch and hes the worlds laziest and uncooperative, but Im sure there are good ones out there too!!!
Would never find a ill word about an arab, Mine runs rings round all my other horses and hes 18!

Hmm I do try to be open minded on this one, but am suspicious that Dutch WBs tend to be thick and oafy. Though I have an ID with these tendancies too! Also I was always taught that WBs have dodgy navicular feet. Though maybe that isn't the case anymore. So, I was never going to have one, but I did accidentally buy a Knabstrupper x ID recently and she is very brainy!
