If you have a bates innova, please would you measure it....

i have recently sold my innova on ebay, i was unsure what size it was (ie 0,1 or 2) so i measured it. however i have had an email stating that i have sold it as the wrong size, i measured it at 17.5'' but the buyer has said it is a size 0 which would measure16.5'' - 17''.

if you have access to one please could you measure yours, im just interested to know if they do come up big or (which i cant believe as i sold many, many saddles) that i have managed to measure it wrong. I measured mine from the d ring to the middle of the cantle.

Has anyone else had this problem with a bates??

I have always believed you measure from the nail point to the centre of the cantle. If you took the measurement from the actual D ring in front of the nail, you would make a saddle bigger than it actually was. Isn't the saddle stamped with its correct size ?
 
nope sorry scrap that ( i just deleted it) it was measured from the nail point, i just checked my pictures, yhe d ring i was thinking of is underneath the saddle flap, it was over a month ago i sold this saddle!!

thanks for that, it is driving me mad!!! the person has opened a case on ebay against me and without the saddle i can't measure it to make sure i havent made a mistake, if i have measured incorrectly i will glady refund her, but as it took 3 weeks for her to tell me there was a problem i can't help but think she has decided just to return it cause she changed her mind!!!!

anyway, just out of interest how do the other sizes measure?? im a size 12-14 which is why i just can't believe a size 0 is labeled as a 16.5 - 17'', i rode fine in my size 0 which is incredible! i'd love to be able to ride in a real 16.5'' :)
 
Sorry just re read that. Tricky one - is she saying it's 17inch not 17.5 and therefore doesn't fit?
Incidentally what width is it as I'm half looking for one (ie want one but not meant to be spending any money!)
 
My size 0 measures a smidge under 17.5 and my size 1 measure about 18.25! They are both labelled but the label is on the stirrup bar and is mostly rubbed off.
Did you list it as a size 0 or a 16.5-17.0"?
 
That's the thing, I couldn't find what size it is so I didn't give a size I just measured it at 17.5. She has found a stamp saying size 0 and has told me item is not as described and that she undrstood she was receiving a size 1 but i didn't say what size it was :(

The innova is a changeable gullet saddle. She left me possitive feedback, then 3 weeks later said her saddler had looked at it and it is the wrong size, she asked for a refund, I said no so she has opened a case on me and eBay has frozen my account :(
 
Hmmm, that sounds like you have sold it correctly, I don't understand ebay enough to help though, sorry. It does sound like maybe it doesn't fit and so she's trying it on. But if she has left positive feedback, how can she then change her mind?
 
Because it seems that feedback doesn't count for anything. I have asked her to email me a photo of her measuring the saddle which she has agreed to but I'm just curious as to how bates measures these saddles if they all come up big? Currently paypal have taken the £700 out of my account again and frozen it until eBay decides who is at fault!
 
Can you phone eBay? Discuss it with someone? I don't think you have done anything wrong, but if she can email you a picture of her measuring it at a different size then that might be grounds for you having advertised incorrectly..... Would be surprised though, as you didn't actually say was a size 0 or 1!
 
I have rung eBay twice now but the people you get through to are not English so the English language isn't that good and I don't actually think they understand what I am saying. im just cross though as I bought this saddle brand new in march but as my horse needed his hocks medicating and I needed the money to pay for it so I sold it for only £700 and it had only been used a handful of times, she's had an incredible saddle very very cheap and she is still arguing! Not to mention the fact she is probably still riding in it :(
 
In a way I almost hope she has marked it so I can take photos and contact eBay, she has already stated the saddle was in excellent condition when she got it so she can't use the excuse it was already there! :)
 
have you tried explaing to her that although the size 0 is meant to be 16.5-17, they do come up big and that its really a 17.5 saddle? sometimes people just cant see whats right in front of them.......

(and they really do come up huge, my size 0 is still a bit too big for me really, its never in a million years 16.5!!!)

sadly, i think you might be better off refunding and re-selling, i am taking my saddle for a client to try tonight and if she likes it, she will be after a size 0, is your standard knee blocks?

as usual i think you guys are right!! she isnt replying to my responces on the case and then out of the blue i get an email asking why i havent responded to the photos.........because she hasnt sent any thing, it takes her days to reply to my emails and that is if she is going to reply at all :(
This saddle is the extended block version, oh if only i had a non lame horse to use it on ...........
