I wouldn't be up for that at all. I'd either move my stuff somewhere secure or nicely ask them not to take it (unless they are borrowing in which case they should ask).

Its annoying but seems to happen at most yards.
If it's a good friend then I have no problem with them using any of my stuff as and whe. If it's not then I would expect to be asked if it could be borrowed, failing that a quick 'i borrowed xxx yesterday hope you don't mind'.
I do my nut if things are taken and not put back or broken and not replaced though

I would mind if they used my stuff without asking, its only good manners isn't it? I don't mind the ppl at my yard using my stuff at all, but theres only 2 other ppl there and I know them really well, but would still hope they'd ask me-which they always did do and we don't bother asking now as theres no point-answers always yes!

I have moved yards before because my stuff/feed/tack was being used without my knowledge let alone my permission. If someone asks to borrow a scoop of feed/brush/headcollar then most of the time i would say yes no problem, but i come back from work once to find they had taken my horse out for a hack with her friends.Furious was not the word.

I prefer to be asked first, we save hard to get our stuff and the ones at the yard can afford loads more than us. Have had wee things like lead ropes going missing, also at last yard my horses were being taken out without me knowing. Wasnt until i came up one day and they were just coming back!!

Said that they were doing me a favour!!! Cheeky cows!

I would mind very much if my stuff was "borrowed" on a regular basis. I am assuming without permission is what is annoying you.

That's what I like about my yard - it's not perfect (where is lol) but we all have our own individual stores for our stuff including tools rugs and feed all locked up, so nobody can nick anyone else's things. Having said that it's tiny (only 4 owners) so it's not a huge issue anyway.

I would definately mind. I am really picky about these things. I don't mind people occasionally borring stuff if I have been asked and agreed but I hate it when people don't ask and / or take it for granted. If you have paid for all your kit and someone keeps borrowing a certain peice of tack, it just isn't fair. Obviously if someone was really stuck, I wouldn't have a problem, but otherwise it drives me mad if they don't ask.

If I was at a yard, I would keep all my stuff locked away. I probably sound like a complete loon

, but I work hard to keep my horses and don't like scroungers!

Luckily I keep my horses at home so no one gets to see my selfish behaviour!

Would be annoyed if they borrow it and don't return it or return it broken and don't own up!!!That really makes me mad!!
I do get into rant mode on occasions if things are continually borrowed and not put back!!
Also think it depends on what people are borrowing.I know someone who 'borrows' someones #200 odd GPA hat regularly.I would freak at that.Friend of daughters asked to borrow her GPA once said fine but if she fall on her head she would have to replace it.Funnily enough it wasn't borrowed.

oh my god, I don't know what posses some people, you know? How ridiculously rude and stupid! I would have moved if people did that to my horse, I hope your horse was ok!
And I don't mind, like everyone else, so long as my stuff is returned undamaged or if they break it I would expect them to replace with a new 'blank' or give me the money for a new 'blank'. I used to regularly 'misplace' whips and hoof picks at our old yard, that used to annoy me!

write your name on your stuff. i do this and at least if someone takes it you can prove its yours.
i'll lend people things if they ask, but i get a bit p***ed off if people just take without asking.
also, is there any way for you to have a box to keep your things in? i have a big plastic crate thingee with name on which i keep all my stuff in and people tend not to take out of there.

tbh it would piss me off
i wish people would buy their own stuff, i know some of mine gets borrowed on a regular basis without me being asked, and its wear and tear and i dont really like it, but its rather tricky, if it were people i did not know that well i would easily speak up and say i am not happy about it, just say something before you get taken the mickey out of, people should buy and use their own
Dont get me wrong i dont mind lending stuff but not all the time and i always want to be asked, not told after said event really!
mini rant over

Because i worked for her parents at the time she thought i wouldent mind.I thought my horse had been stolen.I was stood there with a new stable rug and wormer in my hand and going balistic.I'm afraid when she rode back into the yard 30 minutes later i went mental. The air was quite blue to say the least.I see her on the telly sometimes now and she make my blood boil even now.

Yep..I would as soon as my dustpan and brush is used it's hidden,in a top secret location, all my bottles and lotions are marked when I last used them with a marker, very discretely...I place my scoops in my feed bins in a certain way,my hay is tied up so a section can't be just loaned without a struggle to get to it through the twine...Yep got it all sussed me.....If you believe that, you would think of me as some tight fisted cow,and I'm most certainly not...it would bug me,and if the problem kept happening I would have a chat with the YO!

ps:-Just some ideas if it's happening to you on your yard, and have no YO to talk to!

I've no problem with someone borrowing my barrow or muck fork....but as for tack, grooming kit etc certainly not. There is little chance of anyone taking any tack without asking as I have a secure individual tack cage to kep all my gear in.

I would be livid though if someone took any of my stuff without asking, I buy quality equipment & look after it.

I am the yard owner and my boarders always use my stuff LOL!! I don't mind in the slightest, it's all there to be used and so long as they return it to where they found it, I am happy for them to use anything.

Not much winds me up as much as people helpin themselves to my things.
Very close friends no problem, but people you hardly know would drive me bonkers!!!!
Personally, I would put your things somewhere they can be locked up.

When I ran barns and had "barn stuff" it was there for people to use. But people's individual stuff is their own and off limits without asking. But then I'm an only child.

If it's out then it's available for anyone to use, but when I was on a yard you had to go through my stable to my feedroom which was locked anyway, no one did as not many people wanted to risk the unpredictable nag that guarded the feedroom.

It's only me here, so if something goes walkabouts I've either put it down somewhere and forgotten where, or one of the dogs has pinched it!

I don't mind people using wheelbarrows, forks, yard brushes etc but do mind people using any of my other things. Luckily at our yard we haven't had any problems like that - frantically touching wood now I have said that.

I would hate it if people borrowed my stuff, but if they ask I am usually more than happy to say yes. My current yard is really good, nothing is locked up and nothing ever disappears - hope the new one will be the same.

lockable tack boxes for all kit and lockable feed bins are required for a peaceful life on big DIY yards. As is getting a tipex pen and naming every single thing you own.

I hate people borrowing my things without asking me first.
mad.gif

So many times the item has come back damaged, or not come back at all
mad.gif

I now have locks on nearly everything and I've written my name on anything that can't be chained up

A girl at the next yard has had real problems with a slipping saddle so I lent her my treeless, which didn't slip!, for 2 days BUT she then said she'd taken it home to clean and I eventually get it back after 4 days, NOT clean.
mad.gif

I've also caught them taking a scoop of MY BC LAMI LIGHT feed and laughing it off saying they always replace it, which they did with PASTURE NUTS, just tipped in with mine
mad.gif

GOD.............B***** people
