If you send your horse away for schooling do you normally pay full yard fees?

I'm wondering what the norm is in regard to your current yard where your horse lives.

Is it normal to still pay the usual amount for your livery while your horse is away or do some places just charge a holding fee for the stable?

My yard charged me a holding fee of £100 while my horse way away for a month, my normal cost is £430pm.

I would probably pay the full amount as mine are DIY but I think I would want the price reduced while they were away if I was on full livery :)

I suppose they should definitely charge you less as you won't be needing feed and bedding. If they can reduce the hours of any staff then they may charge you less for that. But as they won't be able to relet/make any profit out of the stable/field etc then I think you should still expect to pay the majority of the monthly bill.

My friend was charged £50 a week when her horse was away, instead of her usual £120, think that was the profit on the stable.

Thanks for the replies. :)

I thought the same, that I would have to pay full amount (DIY), it's just that a friend said she only paid (DIY livery) a holding fee of £50 a month whilst her horse was away for 4 weeks.

That's helpful to hear everyone's experiences.
