She remembers winning the Beaufort ladies’ race on Farm Hill, who was 25-1 with the bookmakers but 80-1 on the Tote. “Someone said ‘that horse came through like a dose of salts’,” she said. “My husband Peter had 10 shillings in his pocket and didn’t put it on; he went to the pub that evening and they all expected him to stand a round!”
It is a pleasure to ride so not something one deserved medals for.
Many others in their 80s who would want to ride have instead been in isolation away from the horses they ride?
I took a headcollar to the yard on 10 March last year and we havent left home since. To protect the NHS they say but to protect ourselves as well.
I was hoping post vaccine to ride in mid April but now even that doesnt seem certain.
An elderly friend of mine continued to hunt twice a week up until she was 87. She has a fall one day, and whilst she was in hospital her children sold her horse. It was the worst thing they could have done, she went downhill very fast after that. I don't think she ever forgave them
Well I was hoping a 6 year old would see me out but even if he's still in work at 30 that would only make me 86, so maybe I'd better think about buying another 2 year old. What do you reckon?
