I bet the hi-viz wont be supplied by Equisafety, lol!
Stopping youths on motorbikes using police on horseback, do we think someone has perhaps not thought this one through!

I think they were sponsoring the hi viz for them.

I can't get over the "you need to have access to a suitable horse" part. Will training be given to these suitable horses. Seems a bit pie in the sky to me, to find the right folk who have access to a "suitable horse".

A job for AdorableAlice and Ted maybe :D

Well that will put a lot of people off for a start! ...and who is going to pay for the extra shoes & feed?
Sounds like a bit of a hairbrained idea to me! Like everybody has got the time & money to be playing police officers on their horse!

umm YES you are fully trained and the idea came about because horse riders were sick to death of dodging broken glass and asbestos and suchlike on their hacks, also speeding drivers and also have the ability to see things in places not accessible to police vehicles.

The scheme gives them (i) the deterrent effect to this kind of behaviour (ii) the contacts and ability to get stuff dealt with much quicker (iii) the ability to ride and hack with a real purpose that helps their community (iv) a great PR exercise for the horse community with local people promoting horse riding.

It is aimed at people who have their own horse anyway and ride it anyway so Im not sure why anyone has a problem about it. Yes you still pay with your shoes on your horse if you choose to shoe them, but most horses wouldnt need any extra feed - the exercise would do them a lot of good in fact.

If you dont want to 'play police officers on your horse' or if thats the way you see it then Im sure the scheme isnt right for you. And you might not be right for the scheme either.

I see nothing wrong in getting the community involved in policing - the police are supposed to be of the people and part of the people. Its a mutual benefit thing.

The motorbike/youths thing is more of a deterrent effect - NOONE would be expected to chase them, in fact that would be strongly discouraged, but you will be able to contact the right people to get them apprehended quickly.
