and when you bought him/her you were told he was 10, his passport said he was 8 this year, but you'd been told by a vet and several very experienced horse people that he is 6 this year.....
what would you put on his advert and tell interested people as to what his age is?
i would do a poll but it looks a bit confusing

The passport is the only written evidence of his age. I would assume the others are estimates based on opinions?
I would go with the passport age unless you have someone that knows for definate when the horse was born, i.e, breeders.

It would depend on the type of passport - if it had been with him since birth then I'd go with that. If not I'd say I wasn't sure about age and say he was about 8. Looking at teeth isn't a foolproof method of telling a horses age, so there is no way of knowing for sure, really.

he was bought last year by my ex boss from a dealer without a passport so she paid someone to come in and make 1. myself and the passport lady aged him at 5, my boss disagreed and said he was 10, but just to stick 7 down as his age anyway! which the passport lady did. my ex boss was anything but honest btw
i was just interested in this as my friend is now selling the pony on, and i probably would've gone with selling him as a 6 year old, but she's selling him as his passport states.

The real age should be assessed at the vetting - your ex boss has acted fraudulently TBH!!! Your friend is in full knowledge that the horse is younger than the passport states and if she advertises him as his passport age then surely she too is acting fraudulently!!!

However, *buyer beware* and all that, the real age should be revealed at the vetting if there is one.

i can't remember exactly what happened with the vetting, but the vet who did it isn't exactly a great horse vet anyway.
another vet came out to do teeth and i asked his age then, and also since moving to another yard last year, the YO there also aged him as 5.
i think my ex boss knew that they would never have bought him as a 5 year old for a young girl looking for her 1st pony.
i could write a novel on all the dodgy dealings and untruths my ex boss got up to
