Friends of mine just left a new yard after 6 weeks cos of this, her poor horse's face was getting bitten and scratched to pieces too....rubbish.
Ours sometimes get ripped rugs but there are a few in the field who will hang off each other's rugs and also quite a lot of trees etc overhanging, and its not an awful daily problem.
If it was def my horse doing the ripping I would offer to repair and then seperate my horses I think...
