I am going to buy a Ifor 401/403 as soon as i locate a second hand one, But my first job is to change my car. I was thinking of getting a (year 2000 onwards) Honda CR-V 2L - but have read you can tow with estate cars, as this will be my only vehicle im interested if anyone out there who tows a 401/403 uses an estate and what is it? Also what are your weights (car/horse/kerb etc)? ps. I don’t need any "get a double trailer" or “there are too dangerous to use” nonsense I have made my decision and just want some advice on a tow car for THIS trailer from fellow 401/403 users. Thanks in advance :o)

Is this the mare and foal size one? If so, it's what I have and it is fab! Very stable, as it is far wider than the continental single trailers, and better still there is enough room inside to tack up if it's bucketing rain! Stick to your guns if you get grief from people re 'needing' a two horse, well done!

So, back to your original post, I tow with a Nissan X-Trail. It is a smaller 4x4, has proven perfect for towing this trailer with a 15hh medium-weight on board. The trailer is the exact width of the car, which is handy for knowing where you can fit through gaps!

The car is reasonably economical, lots of parts are shared with smaller Nissan models rather than the larger ones so they come in cheaper than they could do otherwise. Cruises on the motorway (we drive relatively often from the Highlands to Hampshire!), huge boot space, tows this trailer so well you don't know it's on, small enough you don't have to worry in Tesco's car park, does a fab job up our long, steep, rough driveway in worst of snow and ice... cannot recommend highly enough.

The whole trailer weight thing is complicated - www.towinghorsetrailers.co.uk has lots of really useful info.

Good luck!

Hi, I tow with a ford mondeo estate. Totally fab, can't praise it enough. I have a max of 15hh travelling in it, but its quite capable of having a larger horse too.
I have piccies, but photo bucket has the flu it seems and isn't co-operating!
