What do you use / prefer and why.

Advantages / disadvantages of both / either?

I almost had a bateson ascot coming my way (drool) but it fell through so now looking at Ifors as I am upgrading from my sturdy old rice beaufort.

Thanks.

No preferences as such. One is bigger. So that you can get bigger horses in it. That's it.

The 510 is more versatile as you can get bigger horses in it or 2 big round bales of haylage :D I would always go for a 510, but then, I'm always going to have bigger horses :)

They are very robust trailers and if properly looked after will still look smart, several years down the line :) Love them!

Ok so...so I have an OLD rice beaufort and can't establisjph it's actual unladen weight. Does anyone know if the 510 is any lighter? I am obviously googling too....thanks.

Our ancient Rice Beaufort is 750kg unladen. Ifor 510s are around 1000kg I believe, and 505s around 900kg? (correct me if I'm wrong :) )

I had a 505 (now have a lorry for the 3 ponies) and it was a lovely trailer and as my biggest pony is 15hh I didn't need the 510 .
My sister has a 510 which is also lovely and she carries one 12.2 pony and a 4 wheel carriage easily so I think it would depend on what size horse you are wanting to travel .

510! My horse is a bit of a freak in the box and when hes scared bites and head butts me :( He cant get me in the 510 far more room! As for the comment about round bales . I had a rice box, rolled a round bale in it hit the front and was hanging out lol be careful!

I notice that the unload front ramp is roadside whereas my rice, the bateson and robinsons are off road. I take it that this isnt a cause for concern?

1 last question.....I will only be travelling (mostly) a 14.3 heavy & a 14.2....is giving the extra room asking for trouble ie mine is snug in the rice, are there more possibilities for getting himself into trouble ie over the breast bar etc? You hear of incidents....

He hasnt been a happy loader in the rice so I am hoping the larger lighter 510 might be more inviting.

Thanks everyone.

Oh how I wish I was buying brand new :)

Just bought the 510 anyway.

Now I need to sell my rice to help pay for it!

Thanks everyone.

You won't regret it! The 510 is a nice big airy trailer - I always load with front ramp and jokey door open and partitions folded back to make it as inviting as possible.

Whoever it was that warned about loading big round bales in - thanks for the warning - we are very careful about how we do it ;)
