Just went to view IW Black Classic 2007 (one with windows and nicer wheel trims i think!) - one owner. They would accept 2400. My friend came to see it with me and liked it and said she'd sell me her 2008 blue ifor for 2250 and buy the other. I'm not sure - 2250 is better price wise but i think the black one maybe looks better - and with windows (and there seem less black ones around) may be easier to sell on?

Any thoughts ? Are the classics sought after more or not really??

I sold my classic within 24hrs of advertising it. IMO they are much better looking than the standard ifor trailers. I loved mine :)

I've got a silver classic and I would go for the black classic, rather than your friend's.

Not sure on market values, but for £150, I think the extra windows and pretty mudguard is good value, plus black would match any car, whereas blue wouldn't.

Thanks for your replies :)

I have a green jeep cherokee!

What do you need to check to see it isn't stolen - the long number printed on bit near the jockey wheel?

I am just learning to tow - can i take it out with someoe who has the B and E on their license to practice?

I always think that what is unloaded out of a trailer is more important than the look (not quality) of the trailer. I quantify any savings I can make into how many bales of hay the savings equal. Save where you can you never know what bill is round the corner.

Please check that you all have the right licence to tow large trailers and visit the HHO TOWING CLINIC if you have any concerns - link below :D

Hi ROG

Am getting this so I can practice the reverse in my yard - I have had a few lessons but cancelled the test because i had nothing to practice in and found it hard just having a lesson every two weeks!

Can you go out and practice driving with someone who has the B and E on their license? (without the horse in obviously!) - he hasn't done the B and E test but is an oldie so has the B and E on.

I read about insurance as well 0- do i need to tell my insurance company in terms of towing on a provisional license?

If they have taken the actual test, not just grandfather rights, then yes you can but they MUST have passed the test.

I had no idea of this until I did my test.. Glad I didn't mention I'd be driving around with my OH for months :p

We had to when I was learning (I'm in Ireland, but I'm assuming car insurance isn't all that different...). If you give your insurance company a ring they'll be able to tell you what you need to do.

As for the trailers, what are they like condition-wise? I think the Classics have aluminium floors (which you'd still want to check), but does your friend's box have aluminium or wood, and what condition is it in? Replacing a floor would cost more than you'd save. Do you know anyone who services trailers who might be able to check both out and recommend which to go for?

You were legal doing that - no need for the actual test to be passed - you were misinformed - probably by some B+E trainer who stands to gain from such misinformation !!!

Insurance - just informing them is all that is required - no extra premiums

SUPERVISING A B+E LEARNER
In April 2010 new rules were introduced for those supervising certain learner drivers but they only affected those supervising VOCATIONAL categories such as C1 C1+E D1 & D1+E where the supervising driver had those categories given to them for free when they passed a pre 1997 car test.
They do not affect those with a pre 1997 B+E licence who wish to supervise a B+E learner.
All B licence holders have B+E provisional on the paper part of their licence and can tow an empty or loaded trailer on all roads including motorways.
The usual rules apply when a learner is driving -
The supervising driver must be aged over 21
The supervising driver must have held a B+E licence for at least 3 years
L plates must be fitted to the front of the vehicle and the rear of the trailer
Correct insurance for a B+E learner

Many will find that passing the once in a lifetime B+E test is their best option so here is some info on that test:-

The B+E test
No medical or theory test required
Read a number plate from a certain distance
VIDEO - Show Me Tell Me Questions - usually 5
The next three can be in any order:-
VIDEO - Reversing Exercise - done in test centre grounds if test conducted from practical test centre - some tests are now being done from training school grounds
VIDEO - Uncouple/couple up - done in test centre grounds if test conducted from practical test centre - some tests are now being done from training school grounds
One hour road drive - includes the independent drive and is done virtually the same as the basic car test

DISCLAIMER - I have no connection to any companies which may be featured in those videos

This is interesting – a B licence towing set up can be presented for the B+E test but L plates must be used for the test. So you can train yourself, go to test by yourself, fit L plates, do the test, then, pass or fail, remove L plates and drive away by yourself. = NOT RECOMMENDED THOUGH !!

OK - I just rang the DVLA and they said it was OK for you to go out with someone who has the B and E on their licence (ie your dad, older partner) as long as they have had it for longer than 3 years AND you have L plates on. I asked did they need to have done the test - as they wouldn't have done as they already had B and E on their license. They said no.
