I took on a rather poor looking horse a couple of months ago. He' s a 16hh TB, ten years old and is an Ex racer. He's been wormed and is fed three times a day on Conditioning cubes, speedy beet, ad lib hay and is out at grass with a good quality rug on. His weight is picking up really well, although he lacks muscle at the moment. My worry is that his face looks 'odd' to me. It's hard to explain, but when you see pictures of poor horses some of them have this look to their face. It's like the eye sockets become sunken slightly and the coat stands up on end on the face, making it look puffed up - hope someone knows what I'm trying to describe here. Also, I have taken him barefoot and we've had to wait weeks for any hoof growth. I'm really getting worried now and I am assuming that bloods would be my next port of call? He's not lethargic, and was in quiet high spirits today. Any thoughts from anyone as I'm guessing this may be like looking for a needle in a haystack!
