Illegal bits?

Hi, I am currently studying Equine Science and Management and for welfare I am writing a report on the welfare issues regarding bits.

I was wondering if anyone could help me and let me know if there are any bits that are actually illegal in the UK or elsewhere. I am talking illegal by law not just by showing bodies.

It would be a great help and save me traipsing through a lot of legislation without any real direction!

Perhaps you could try ringing the charity that there was an article about on HHO the other day - something to do with cruel bits in India - I know its the wrong country but they may know something about the UK.
