Anybody else feel at times that there riding is justing getting worse rather than improving lol?

I feel completely stuck at the mo. I had a riding accident 4 years ago and as a result I basically had to re-learn how to ride again. It gave me brain a good wobble and I acted as a nice squashy cushion for the horse to land on top of me.

I'm a really nervous rider, which doesn't help and I refuse to jump now....I start heaving at the thought of going over a jump. It just feels so strange. I have a video of me riding before the accident with the hunt and my riding is sooooooo rubbish now. I've just gone back to being a wobbily rider and I hate it.

I love my loan horse to bits, but I really miss my other horse (that squashed me) in a strange way.

Sorry soppy post but does anyone else feel like their riding is going down hill?

I have days like that. I get on and am a complete bag of nerves - no idea why. I've come of my beastie twice but nothing nasty.

He was recently given the all clear to jump again but I just can't do it. He jumps beautifully when I'm lunging him but when I get on and ride towards the jump it's just a NO from me.

Keep perservering and you'll get there. If your accident was as nasty as it sounds (it sounds quite bad) then you deserve a big well done for getting back in the saddle in the first place.

Thanks Sharon. I just wish I could go back to life before the accident, much easier. It left me with brain damage and I just forget at times my brain can't always keep up lol.

I just get really nervous with people watching me. Knowing I much better rider before I get embarrassed infront of horsey friends. I just feel a beginner all over again. My horse is a brilliant confidence giver, the complete opposite of young nutty arabs I use to ride.

Thanks again

Hiya...i just wanted to say well done for being brave enough to get back into the saddle!!!

So many people have a bad accident and never want to go near a horse never mind ride on again. Its scary really what injuries people do get from horses. A lady my mom knows has been in hospital now for 3 months after being kicked by a horse when it was going into the stable, i dont think she will ever be the same again.

Your lucky enough to find a horse than it so good for you, your riding will probably get better in time. It will just take a while for you to get your confidence back.

I hope everything does work out for you!!!

its not that your a hopeless rider, just think what your brain and body have been through, we too have the fight or flight instinct and your body is choosing the flight. just take your time and good luck.

time is a healer it will all come back to you ..rome wasnt built in a day..

well done for getting back in the saddle after your accident thats the first step well done..
what happend to your horse what squished you?
if you dont mind me asking

Thanks everyone!

I was out hacking with some friends. I can't remember but my friends think some children had spotted us and spooked the horses. We think it was fireworks they set off (even though it was in May). My Arab went crackers and reared but both of us went backwards. She landed on me and I smashed my riding hat on some rocks on the downfall and for a time I was slightly paralysed down my left side. It's left me epileptic as well.

It's taken me 2 years to get back on board. I was just soooooo bored because riding was my life before the accident. I'm a more sedate rider now lol.

Thanks!
