Yesterday I noticed baby foalie not looking so good in the field.. very lathargic, not playing!!!.... on closer inspection noticed he was pooing 'cement like' water!!!
Got mum and him into pen and she has mastitis and has been poisoning the foal!!!
Vet's first words were 'that's disgusting' as she noticed the poo on the ground!
He was deteriorating very quickly and vet felt it very important to stop giving him mum's milk and they have both had IV antibiotics and have a weeks course of powders... (not easy to give a foal in milk that he hates anyway!
Mare is much better today and is letting me strip the milk off her no problems and foalie is doing much better! I've managed to get him to drink milk / electrolites and water in a bucket (doesn't get the rubber teat thing!!!
I'm so chuffed that he's more lively and he even bit me when I was trying to remove the syringe for the probiotic!!! ( I was ever so pleased with this lol!)
Sorry for the pointless post......... just had to talk to someone who isn't my worried OH!!!
This is me and mum before my sore tum!!!
Cookies and hot chocolate for anyone who made it this far!
