Next Friday is my dads 70th birthday. For his 50th birthday we bought him riding lessons and he got really quite good (not that I'd ever tell him) however 4 years ago he had a small stroke, he has recovered remarkably well and the only lasting effect is his left side is slightly weaker. He has been going on and on about riding my older horse, part of me wants to let him ride on his birthday as a treat. We have a large mountain block so getting him on an off should be ok, I know my horse will behave as my 6yo niece rides him by herself and my sharers brother is disabled and rides him. Just stressing about it all, Dad is not to heavy or to tall for him. So would you do it or think of something else?!

That is a wonderful idea and by the sounds of it your dad will be over the moon!

Make sure you take all safety measures you can but it is surprising how well horses can judge situations. x

Yes yes yes do it :) What a lovely post! Horse sounds safe and steady and a keen jockey will be a lovely present.
I possibly wouldn't wrap the horse up for him though :p
Please update and tell us how he got on :)

What a lovely idea and if you think your horse is nice and steady and up to it (and from you written he sounds it)i think you will make your dads day. Sometimes the best gifts dont cost money and what lovely memories you will have.and pictures on here are a must :) a thoughtful idea x

Feeling depressed now, lol :) I'm 54, work full time and do my three horses, including a young TB.
Seriously though, it would be a lovely present. My cob is very forward with me but is totally safe with small kids and total beginners. I swear she knows. Xx
