So last week, the Carrot Lady hauled me back out of the field with my friends in it, and put me in the pony jail again. It wasn't too bad, because my friend the horse with the moon on his face was there too, with a sore foot, even though he bit me if I wanted to get at the hay when he didn't want me to. And he kept drinking all the water and then throwing the red bucket around (the black bucket is too big to throw around)! So I was pretty thirsty on the day we go see the Scary Chicken Flap Man, because it was really hot too. Maybe I should be happy he's gone! The moon-faced horse, I mean. Not the Scary Chicken Flap Man. Although it's good when he's not there too.

That day was actually pretty ok otherwise, because even though I got really really hot, I got to canter lots, and that was fun. And the Scary Chicken Flap Man said nice things to the Carrot Lady, so she was really happy, even though she told him off for calling me a "sh*t pony", and he said that she should take it as a compliment because she was making such a sh*t pony do really well.

I'm not sure I understand what was going on there. Was a good, or wasn't I? She calls me a "little sh*t factory" sometimes, because I poo a lot (I have a very healthy bowel! My record is 13 times on one ride!

), so is that the same thing?

Anyway, after that I got to nap for a while in the stall of the nice wide-faced pony, and then we went for a long, long walk in the sun, and I got praised lots for walking past a thing that had those skinny things for hitting little white balls in it.

The next day I had to climb over lots of poles, which is ok and maybe actually a little little bit of fun, because I really have to pay attention.

Except the Carrot Lady gets mad if I eat in the middle of this game. Well, what am I supposed to do when she stops to move poles around, and there's all this tasty grass around me?

Today was a bit strange, though. First there was a different lady, who kept putting saddles on and off my back. I thought that was a bit weird. Maybe she wasn't sure which one is mine?

Then the Carrot Lady and I went for a ride, which was nice except for the bits in the woods where she wanted me to stand still when I wanted to go fast.

I went backwards and sideways lots, but that didn't really help, because she just got annoyed. Maybe I need to try harder next time?

But now...well, she put me back in the pony jail, of course, and I do have lots of hay, and water...but the moon-faced horse isn't there! I saw him earlier, but he was gone when we got back. I'm ok, but I'm a bit lonely, and although the Carrot Lady gave me an apple and some scratches, she didn't stay in the pony jail to graze with me.

Can anybody cheer me up?

poor spooky... i'm not sure what you've done to deserve the pony jail?!

at least you don't have to share your hay, and you can snooze in peace!

I don't get the comment about sh*t ponies either - mum says I'm a closet elephant, which I think is to do with my poo. I have healthy bowels too, and I'm not so much little and often as all in one go!

mum put us in just now - we've been in the big field today, where we usually spend the winter. and to be honest, I think my teeth need a rest!

did you get a new saddle spooky? my mum had a lady come to see me recently who tried lots of saddles on me, and made mum ride me round the big field

but I got a new saddle at the end of it. It's much better than my old one and it must be good for mum too cos she always says wow when she's talking about it.

oh... and you know when the carrot lady wants you to stand still when you want to go fast? mum makes me do this too, and I stand and take lots of deep breaths and then get ready to go. as soon as she moves just a little bit I fly off like i'm a race hose. It's really really good fun! Even more so if you're out with a friend you can race!#

Polo's!!

Dear Ron,

thanks for the polos!

I'm not sure if I got a new saddle or not. I was sure enough wearing the one that makes the Carrot Lady's legs all long when we went for our ride. She rode me in another one that wasn't that saddle, or the other saddle that makes the Carrot Lady's legs all short, although it was a short-leg saddle too. It felt a bit funny at first, but then I got one of those square soft things between it and me, and then it was actually ok. So I guess I'll see if I get that saddle again!

I'm intrigued by your deep-breath-taking-off tactic! Maybe I'll have to try that next time! Do you think that would be a good one to use if we go to a party with the howling things and the hooting things where you get to run really really fast??

Carrots,
the Spooky Pony

Hi Spooky!

the deep-breath-taking-off tactic was perfected whilst out hunting (my favourite thing after eating and sleeping), and I'm working on a new tactic, which starts off the same, but instead of taking off, you stand like a rock then jump sideways suddenly. You have to take all four hooves off the ground at once, and go at least 6 feet to the side.

I obviously haven't got it quite right yet cos mum stays on and gets cross with me. but Peter comes off almost every time, and even better lands on his feet so he can't be too cross.

I hope you've been allowed out of pony jail today.

Polo's
