Hello folks

I've not been on here for a while since my last drunken post about my Mum and my broken horse. I'm feeling a lot better, thank you for all the kind words of support.

Now I have a question for you all.......my ned seems to be getting worse and I have the vet out this Thurs and I have a feeling that he will need to be retired, so what the hell do I do...

I love him to bits but can't afford to keep him as a pet

I want a horse that I can ride

I can't afford 2

I don't know what to do??? Has anyone ever sold or given their horse away as a companion, and has it worked out?

I hoping come Thursday this won't be an issue and the vet will say give him cortaflex or something and he'll be fine but.........

Full size horses rarely make it as companions and be very very careful we've had people on her loose horses that were loaned out as companions , then sold on by the unscrupulous loanees.
There's the blood banks, I know nothing about them I'm afraid.
Is your horse a mare? If so could she carry a foal we had a good post on here about surrogate mares for embryo transfer foals.
If not really you have the tough decision of keep as an unridden horse or PTS so you can get a riding horse.

Hiya, good to see you back. Hope things are a bit easier now.
I was in exactly the same boat as you a few weeks ago and convinced I'd be looking for a companion home for Archie - even posted on here about it.

BUT... when vet saw him said it was the best he'd seen him since his problems started and to get on with hacking him. We don't know if he'll ever do more but I'm just really happy to be back on board at the moment and plan to just enjoy hacking with no pressure over the winter and see how he is in the spring. So I wouldn't put the horse before the cart, and worry about anything until you know you have to.

If you want to come for a ride I can always borrow something and you can take Arch out with me. I know it's not the same but I found even just hacking a borrowed horse lifted my spirits for a bit.
