I'm curious, bits....

Basically, I've got one little person on one shoulder, and another on my right. I spend my whole life being screamed at by the two of them

One of them says do one, and the other says the opposite

I'm the prime candidate for "curiosity killed the cat."

Anywho, this time its Neue Schule V. Myler.

I've currently got a Myler comfort snaffle, just the loose ring version etc but find myself being shouted at by the voice in my head to try a Neue Schule...

So, what are your experiances etc, which would you prefer?

Try to shout louder than the two on my shoulders

I have the Myler comfort snaffle with english d cheeks with hooks. Ben is really comfortable with it (I rarely use the hooks tho). Must admit I've never tried the Neue Schule bits but have hung my nose over them, if you buy one let us all know!

my current musings are Neue schule v's sprenger!!!! My only differentiation at the mo is price - I am sure there must be something else!!!

The metal contents ar different. I bought NS to start off with, horse hated it, bought the same mouthpiece in Sprenger and he was fine.

OK, so this is my opinion only!!!

I think the brand of bit is irrelevant, providing the horse is comfortable, it doesn't matter whether it is a specific brand

However, having said that, I have had neue schule bits, sprengers, and now have a myler.

The NS ones, I find are quite thin, and are made of "soft" metal. If that makes sense!!!

One horse actually chewed a NS bit and made it sharp!!!

This horse btw had his teeth regularly done and had no irregularities!!

The sprenger is probably the best bit I have ever had, but I appreciate it doesn't suit every horse.

Recently I had to dash to the tack shop for a D ring french link. We have D ring french links, but not in the size I needed. The pony was very uncomfortable in the NS ( they do seem to come up small) but settled beautifully in a bog standard one!!

I do like the Myler for the big mare, but she is a fussy mouthed being, and the myler just seems to suit her.

Obviously all these bit companies are hyping "unique" selling points, and whilst many are valid and worthwhile, there are only so many ways you can construct a bit!!.

I appreciate this may not answer your specific question, but I still think, find a bit that suits your horse, not the "brand" to do the job!!

I love the Myler I have for Darcy as it gives me good brakes and he head shakes a lot less in it. So I dont really have a need to change. Besides, are NS dressage legal??

It also depends on what the horse prefers movement wise. Some bits create a different motion and pressure points than others. Also the mylers have a different action to the other bits due to the raised "link" so to speak. Its personal preference at the end of the day, and whatever the horse seems most comfortable in

Yes some of the NS are dressage legal, but not all, you need to check if you're thinking of buying one

The sprenger I have is a loose ring snaffle, training bit, don't know if they even do them any more, and I have never had a problem with it, must be about 12 years old now!!!

I think I'm more curious as in this magazine, the NS page says it "promotes outline." Surely thats not truly possible from a bit? Better acceptance /salivation etc yes...but....oh I know what I mean!

No bit can do that, certainly not on it's own!!!! Otherwise, I want one!!!

I think that it's a case of "beware of the media hype"!!!

I was more curious about their "claims," about outline etc but least theres another voice of reason out there!!
