Having taken the Sport Horse Foal title at Suffolk County, up against a strong class of super WB foals, Zoe's wonderful Emae (H Tobago x Ayemkay Evin Star) has just won the Hunter Foal class at the Royal Norfolk!!!

It was a big class, too, apparently. Not bad for an obviously half-Arab baby, eh? Big congratulations to Zoe for producing and showing this foal so beautifully!!

I don't have any details yet - just got the text message from Zoe - but here are a couple of pics of Emae:

Thats great news, especially after her last show when she was so disappointed (not that she needed to be with two 2nds)

Its lovely to see a horse with some arab blood in it doing so well

Big congratulations to all concerned

Edited to say, I'm glad you are feeling better, so now you can dance

Thanks everyone!

Got a message from Zoe to say that Emae's mum Evy won her class too!

They are all home safe - poor Zoe is exhausted as she got up at 4am to prepare the girls... She obviously did a very good job! I do hope she is having a well-earned rest now.

Does anyone know how SN got on? I think she was showing H there today?

4am Kate...??? Try 2am, lol - we had to leave at 4.30am!

I didn't actually get any sleep the night before - by 1am I gave up, made some breakfast and went and plaited up.

By the time I had unloaded everything, sorted the girls out, fed them and put everything away it was about 7pm - I just flaked out on the sofa, crawling up to my bed about 8ish. I then got a phonecall from a friend who (for reasons I wont go into) had to find an emergency-home for two cats, so she turned up on my doorstep shortly after 10pm. I answered the door in PJs and not really with it, lol, but that's another story.

I am very happy with the results yesterday - there were some very nice foals in the class, and I thought Emae would have come third, but I was dancing like an idiot when I left the ring! Evy and Emae behaved beautifully (for once) and it was nice they were back on form this week.

On a 'grumble' note I must say that I lost all respect (not that I had much for her anyway) for one producer. The horse was stressed out of his brains, chomping his bit throughout the show. In the collecting ring his hindlegs were being whipped with a piaffe/passage-whip constantly to try and get him moving forwards - the groom even whipped him into the ring! The producer showed him with a long schooling whip, flicking his back legs when the judge wasn't watching. If a horse doesn't show themself off naturally, should it be shown at all?

Whoops! Sorry Zoe - misread your text message! You did indeed say 2am!

So pleased that the girls did so well - against very strong opposition, by the sound of it. Congratulations on producing and showing them so beautifully!

I agree with you 100% about that poor horse being whipped and hyped and harassed! How utterly horrible and cruel. Mark Gamlin, the professional show trainer/handler who trains and shows Tobago, has always said that if a horse does not show off naturally, for fun, it is not a show horse and should not be shown. He's talking about Arab in-hand showing, where the degree of presence and animation required is extreme, but the same applies to hunters or any other show horses, I think.

Congratulations to Emae & Evy. It's fantastic for her to win a hunter class - but there's very few PBAs that would stand a chance!

Pics of show please Zoe.

I did see some of your class Zoe. My boss was in the ring next to you with the 2yo pony. Your foal was so well behaved, didnt care where mum was at all. I thought your mare would win her class as she was the only that moved well enough (IMHO) but I didnt see the foal class and I didnt see much of the championship either.

I saw H was in the program for the 2yo sporthorse class but didnt see the class as I was prepping Portia for the 3yo class. We came 2nd (to bloody Moggy again!!!) but as Portia was being an arse 2nd wasn't too bad

I didn't take any pics at the show, but there was a photographer taking some snaps, and I will post links to the website when they put the pics online.

Thanks Volatis - I wanted to stay and watch your class, but OH was getting restless, and to be honest I was dead on my feet! Emae stood like a rock bless her, but a lot of the credit for handling has to go to OH as he is very good with her in the ring. We have finally managed to get her trotting rather than galloping around the ring now though, lol! And yes, she was the only foal to stay stood in the line-up whilst mother did her individual show. All the other foals had to go with their mummy's, because either the foal or the mare were getting upset. Emae seems to know now that mum goes and ponces about for a few minutes then returns!
