OMG i've only been on here a few days and i'm posting a moan. All our horses are having to stay in at the moment and its doing my head in. I am spending nearly all day at the yard mucking out, riding and lunging and i'm fed up. The YO doesn't seem to understand that horses like to go out and both of mine are getting quite difficult to handle. My daughters pony bucked her off today and i'm back at work tommorow, so will have even less time. There we go, i've got that of my chest.

Bum, I forget how lucky I am sometimes when I'm trudging back and forth to the mud patch/field.

Lets all hope it stops raining soon - then we can all moan about the hard ground.

My horses are kept in also. All 5 of them!!
I feel for you totally because like you after riding 2 and lunging one and mucking them all out I dont have time for much else.
However, Im not missing the mud, and the horses seem happy and content in their stables. The first week Winston was a sod and hated the thought of being kept in but hes now adjusted and is really happy.
I have use of a walker and use the school or hack out (due to being on holiday) so the horses are well exercised and kept busy. I also leave the radio on and make sure they have adlib haylage.

Snoopy was very lively this morning and our hack was cut short, so back to the school we went. I think slightly longer on the walker tomorrow

It is annoying and if this rain doesnt stop soon I can see them staying in for another couple of months - i do however, have another field which on their days off will put them out in well booted up although now toying with the idea of is it worth them injuring themselves just for one day.

*starts doing the sun dance*

Yep im with you too. Bek was so despirate for her neds to have a run out before hunting today that she brought 2 of them upto mine for 2hours in the arena turned out, just for a play.
Its soo crap, I turned oshk out today and he was just covered in mud, and within 3hours was bored, cold, wet and muddy and stood at the gate waiting to come it. I hate it, its not so bad at my yard because I only have Oshk in, so I can put him in a spare stable during the day, but its manic at bekkas

I feel for you, I moved my sons pony as he hated our previous yard where he had no turnout in the winter, made him really unhappy and resentful. I am also fed up with mucking out 4, though at least they are out for the best part of the day.
Are you able to move? I would now have them out 24/7 in preference to in 24/7 tbh.

i do feel sorry for you so many yards have so litle land or owners that dont wish to see hoof prints on it that this problem is common now. my owners have more land than horses so i am really lucky here, it is much more difficult with childrens ponies because all that lunging and/or riding and leading gets the varmints so fit the children have no chance of managing them. i think you ought look into moving as siennamum said if it is at all possible.

I am turning my boys out, but they hate being out in the field for 7 hrs a day. I put out hay but is gone in seconds then they just stand at the gate. My Bert horse has started hole digging and taken a liking to wood chewing damn and blast him! thats despite mineral licks and other toys grrr! I am sure they prefer to be in with a net of hay out of the wind and rain. Not sure if Bertie would be very rideable without turnout either so will have to put up wiht it for now!

****sneaks off to get post and rail quotes)***********

i know the feeling too! My three are all in at the moment as they were just racing around field for the few hours they were out then standing at the fence, so they were plastered in mud, miserable and going to get injured!

To make you all feel a bit better........ i don't have water, electric, hardstanding, anywhere mud free really, apart from inside their stables! I use farmers school that i have to hack to, so think yourselves lucky!!!!:)

I was getting really depressed few weeks ago but i'm ok at the moment and it is so much easier for me with them in, so they are staying in for the mean time, but will find all the riding hard when back at work next week boohoo!

I also spend all day mucking out, grooming, riding, lets look forward to the summer when we can all have a bit of a break!

Watching Seabiscuit this afternoon made me think how lucky we all are though and how we have such amazing bonds with our beloved horses!

Chins up ladies!!!

Im fed up too!!!
My horse should be out, we are lucky enough to have all year turnout but he is on box rest and its getting really hard. We are hopefully half way through it and I can now walk him out in hand but it just isnt happening. He is like a coiled spring and Im scared to death of him fatally injuring himself. So depressed today after our attempt at a walk out this morning.

we are also lucky in that there is enough land for the horses to go out whatever the weather..although the boy as soon as you chuck him out will be back out the gate and in his stable if you dont shut it quick enough! the pony though doesnt care and loves getting out..at our last yard they were kept in even if it looked like rain and after 3 days the pony was box walking, barging out the stable as soon as you unbolted it and had no respect for nothing or no one.. had none of that behaviour this year from her..the only time she has stayed in was when it was absolutely tipping it down and all there rugs were wet from previous days and that was my choice to keep them in.

I have 2 horses at home and decided to sacrifice some of my 1.5 acre field for a menage, so now they use the field Marchish until it gets wet in the autumn, then they go out in the menage with haynets during the day. Neither of them are too bored,if the weathers really horrid I leave them in. It just seems like an eternity since we had decent weather

I dont have that luxury as mine at livery but horse has remedial shoes so scared of turning out incase of pulling them in the boggy fields.......

Low and behold he pulled them boxing day, both fronts!!!!
