I have managed to convince my lovely father to loan me the money to buy a lorry. I have no idea where to start though!

Want a 2 horse lorry, with living if possible, not sure how the licencing works though, there are some that drive on a car licence, what sort are they?

How does the wieght limit work out?

Any other advice appreciated

Thanks

Lucky you! I bought a Ford Iveco 6.25t lorry 2 years ago. It was advertised as suitable for carrying two BIG horses and it does although I found out a few months down the line that whilst the overall weight is fine, I'm overweight on back axle with two big ones in. Love my box, don't regret buying it cos I usually only have my girl in but just be cautious.

i can drive my 7.5 tonner on my car license but not sure if the rules have changed since i passed my test back in the dark ages.
you do have to be very careful of the weight though as mine ,although stalled for 4 its unladen weight is 6.6 ton ( i think ) so can legally only carry 1 horse.

if you passed your car test before 1997 you can drive anything under 7.5 tonnes. if after 1997 it has to be under 3.5 tonnes. limmits are basically anything over 7.5 tonnes is a HGV any thing under is an LGV. when you are looking i can strongly recomend having them 'vetted' before you buy them, if not for your own piece of mind, but because there are some real death traps around!

My lorry is for sale, I'm in Norfolk so not too far from you. 2 horse, large living, check it out in the classified section, will be in H&H next Thurs but already online, it's the gold one with burgundy graphics. Is well under weights and open to any inspection.

To take 2 horses, you will neef a lorry over 3,5 tonnes, esp if you want some living.
You cna take a course for your C and C1 licence. If you cna take a week oof, lots of training centres run an all in week of training and test at the end of it.
Cost is about £1K
Then you can look at a wide range of lorries
You will also get more for you money in the 7,5 tonne range

A 3.5 tonner will only take 2 ponies or one horse wihtin weight limits and not have capacty for living.space.

You could do a 3.5 , but that would be one horse , no living

Plenty of training centres run the courses, you may as well go for the full HGV equivalent, so you can drive any size.
The cut off date was 1/1/1997 for test passes to include up to 7.5 and trailers

You would need to get a LGV or HGV license to drive anything bigger than a "van" conversion. I carry G in a 3.5ton and it weighs 3.1ton with me, him, his tack, water and fuel, so no way would be legal for 2...
