The time has finally come for my first hunt!! Mother and father are away next weekend so i'm taking Louis to his first hunt too. He is far too backward thinking, stupid with mud and very nappy, so me and instructor concluded that the time has come to go hunting!
I won't be jumping or anything, just go with the flow.

My big worry is how i'm going to fit my hipflask in my jacket with my backprotector on over the top

also should i boot up? he is TBx welsh and 4.5 y/o

I'M SO EXCITED! :D

Have fun! I took my youngster last weekend and it was the first time for both of us. We had a fantastic time and I can't wait to go again.

Don't boot! If you can possibly avoid it don't put boots on. If mud or sand gets up inside them, or if they slip or twist they'll rub him raw. You will probably cover a lot of ground and be mounted for a lot longer than normal. You won't have time to jump on and off to check your boots. And if thy got wet inside where would you put them?

The hip flask goes in a pouch on your saddle - you'll never get it out of your pocket under a BP. (Bitter expereince there...) Failing that stuff it into the top if your boot. You'll re-shape your calf - but its worth it!

You'll have a wonderful time!

Don't boot!
Have a wonderful time.
Is someone more experienced than you hunting-wise going with you (your instructor?)?. Helps hugely to have someone you trust out with you your first time, especially if the sight of hounds etc. is all TOO exciting for your horse.
Let us know how you get on.
