Im I a bad horsey mummy? So I turned my wee mare out yesterday morning with her heavy turnout on into her turnout area which consists of about 2 acres of grazing including a hard laneway with high hedges and plenty of trees scattered here and there. She does like to be outside more than in but I would bring her into her stable at night if theres going to be bad weather but last night I didnt have time to even go and see her and it rained constiently all night and this morning with sleet thrown in too.

I will be going to see her this afternoon but will be leaving her out again as I always ride her on a sat morning and she can be pretty fresh if i ride her straight from the stable. Do you think she will be ok and forgive her mummy?? or will she buck me off tomorrow as if to say "ha thats what you get for leaving me out in the cold and rain all night!!"

Lol, I dont think your a bad horsey mummy!!! Im sure she will have been fine and with a thick rug on and hedges etc to shelter from the bad weather. Its not as cold as it has been, so Im guessing she would have been fine.

She might give you a bit of a scowl later.... lol :p

Mine live out 24/7 unrugged, so if you're a bad horsey mummy, mine are just about to be taken off me by social services!!!!!! :D
But seriously, even if she is used to coming in at night, if she likes being outside, is rugged and can get some shelter out there I shouldn't think she'll melt!! ;)

Horses DID survive without rugs for..oh...millions of years...

I do believe horses can live out 24/7 quite happily its just not the way I keep mine and I do believe my little one would think she had been abandoned if I didnt bring her in,put her jammies on and give her a warm feed at night! (call me a softie I will happily admit it!)

Abandonned?! It's a wonder she's not writing her own 'wanted' advert for a new owner- my Welsh cob would- his face in the summer when he's left out 24/7...!!
