A girl I know just text me asking what was the strongest bit you can get, I replied 'why?'. Her response was shocking & left me speachless;
"my pony won't stop but I dont want a big bit because that won't look very pretty"
I am yet to reply as it just left lost for words, she has never got the saddle/teeth checked in the 2 years she has owned the pony & wonders why it puts it's head up & won't stop. Poor little fella :(

what should I say ?!

reply and say 'loose ring snaffle' ;)
i know, loads of people use grackles 'cause they look nice' cause its all fluffy or the fluffy nosebands? have on of them cause they look nice too.....

Edit - also had someone say to me im going to get new tack cause im fed up of black and brown would look nicer on my horse... :o

oh dear, i think you may have to be harsh with her and tell her straight :(

the bigger/stronger bit you put in my pony's mouth the stonger she is!

she is very happy in her myler comfort mouth snaffle :)

I would text her back, saying the best thing to do was to get teeth checked, once that is done you would be happy to help find a suitable bit for her horse.

Best reply to get the right outcome, as tempting as the others might be I think you'll only get her back up and she still won't know the correct thing to be doing.

Is she young? If so I would probably speak to her parents about how she can potentinaly (sp?) harm and do some long term damage to the horse in question if all she wants to do is look 'pretty'. And maybe subtly suggest she gets some riding lessons or joins the local pony club?

hmm definately tell her that just by placing a stronger bit isnt the answer! some horse are sensitive to what bit they have and by putting a stronger bit in may make the matter worse!

I got my new horse on Sept 17th this year and he came in a loose ring french link snaffle, although in his old home he hadnt jumped for two years, but he gets a bit excited as he loves his jumping and was putting his head down after the jump! so my instructor has me now in a 3 ring gag happy mouth with roller and he rides so much better! it wasnt cos he was strong but the gag has a head raising action,

tell her after she has checked teeth etc, she needs to experiment with different bits and a good instructor will be able to help with this,

we have found my horse prefers happy mouth bits and a roller of some kind although i have heard appaloosa'a prefer happy mouth on another thread
