I'm moving off of my field due to various reasons and onto a small livery yard (kids and adults- mostly adults though and 5 of the horses belong to the YO) and my friend who has been on various livery yards (including the yard I'm going on) said that things go missing including feed and that everything needs to get locked up. She said that I'm going to find it a lot different than having my own field!!

Sooooooo, any advice from moving onto a yard from a field? What do you all use for a locking tack box/storage? There is a secure tack room there but I don't know how much room I'll have. I'll have a big wooden box outside the stable that I can out stuff in but its not locking or rodent proof.

It'll be nice having running water and electricity in the winter as my arthritis gets worse every year and can't face another winter of trudging across a field carrying buckets of water from the river!

Postcode/name everything - nail everything down, grow a very thick skin and be prepared for catty comments.

Or

It could be ace and everyone gets on well.

Personally I would stay on field rather than yard, but it could be the best thing you have ever done - so good luck and enjoy it!

Sounds exciting - where are you going?
I don't really lock stuff up but I do put my name on everything. I've had a few things go walkies, usually because someone has borrowed it and not put it back, but if I put a note on the noticeboard about it it soon reappears!

B&Q do decent storage but tesco may be cheaper!
have also heard of people picking up old/broken chest freezers apparently these are brill for keeping rodents out although i believe you usually have to get a bit inventive to make them lockable.
unfortunately I guess this isnt an option:

I love my shelves and boxes :P. You may also wish to erect some kind of rug hanging/drying from wood and baler twine across your storage area (obvs check with YO first).
B&Q boxes did me well for several years until I decided I couldnt cope with the boxes and mess everywhere and having to dig for rugs and invested in shelving and boxes :D
apologies for blurriness no idea why it ballooned an iphone pic up so much!
