im getting myself paranoid now! iv had my new mare a month now and she was very overweight! she has been on a diet and has lost alot of weight were she had fat pads but has a huuuugd tummy! vet came out today to look at prince and check her old wound and a possible sarcoid and a explained that she had lost weight which he agreed but it would come off her tummy. he asked if there was a chance she could be in foal!!! i blo0dy hope not, she had a foal as a 3 year old which was unexpected as her owner bought her infoal and didnt know. her owner is a very very honest lady and im sure she would have known if she had been near anything entire which i cant see how she has but you never know!!! i dont know wether to send a text asking and probably sounding like a complete numpty or just to monitor her weight for the next month and see if she gets bigger, if she does get the vet to examine her. ahhh i dont know what to do. oh actually she is in season but if prince sniffs her she squealls and turns on him. now she hasnt been in work since october till i got her and this was supposedly due to a lack of time and rider, which was fair enough!
this was when i first got her about a month ago. she had a very fatty neck, shoulder bum and flanks.

and this was her last week, lost all that bum still very very round!

am i worrying over nothing?

She doesn't 'look' infoal from those pictures. How about a blood test just to put your mind at rest?

ahh thats a good idea! id rather spend abit more money while im at it and be happy that shes not. add it to the enormous vet bill already mounted! do you know how much a blood test is roughly?

when i have nicko out for bloods normally cost me up to £100 a time including visit however they are for liver check as well, when it was just general ones that get done every few months were around £70.

iv never had bloods done so didnt know how much they were, thats more than i though though! iv just had nicko out about an hour ago to do prince and he checked her, hes out prety much every week anyway so il get him to check her every time he comes out.

i know i had no idea before having them done now down to 3 a year so not too bad. May be a bit cheaper if nicko does them in-house, depends on what they are looking at. I know that feeling had nicko out as emergency on monday as horse had nasty fall when riding and spoke to him again this morn so think i will be seeing him again on friday. Just as got vets bill down!

Just looked at old bills and he charged £11.50 for taking bloods, then £25.88 and another £28.75 for the lab fees, thats the basic plus call out fee which at time on this bill was 30 think its now 35 a call out?

i think hes getting fed up of me haha! constantly on the phone to him updating him on prince. but in fairness to him, hes been utterly fantastic, he always replies to my texts and voicemails even on a saturday and sunday! il be on the phone to him in a couple of days again anyway so il ask him if its worth her having a blood test.

He is good at things like that, just so slow at giving blood results back you have to keep on to him at times for them! Dont worry past few months he had me on phone crying etc most weeks. So think he gets used to it, most of the practice are good at getting back to you straight away. Called him new years eve on his day off and he called me back within few mins.

Do feel sorry for them at times esp as my one hates vets however likes nicko turns out she knew him when she was younger. Told nicko plans for foal next year and reaction not as bad as i thought just not to let it turn into the mother!

the practice have been fab! iv never claimed before and dawn is doing alot for me and explaining everything she is doing, dumbing it down for me haha!! im claiming for remedial work from paul aswell so shes sorting that out for me! prince surprisingly likes him, but hes a very affectionate animal. he did make us laugh today, i trotted him up in the arena and we were talking about how he looked and it started to rain and he threw his toys out the pram (he hates rain) i dont think hes seen a horse react like that to rain! stupid animal!

you need to get your act together.

either get her checked to see if in foal or not. simple.

no one can tell you online.

if she is in foal and your dieting her it will do the foal no good at all plus you need to prepare for the actual foaling.

you had the vet there, he could of done a manual or bloods there and then.

its not rocket science.

iv only had her a month and when i got her she was very overweight and has lost fat everywhere except her stomach hence the thinking she is in foal. il be contacting her previous owner to see if she has been in a situation where she could be in foal first before going all guns blazing with examinations! if she is in foal then the diet routine she is on at the mo will not cause any harm, she is a very healthy mare but was very overweight! shel have expert care if she does turn out to be in foal! no expense spared!

Woah, someone has PMS. Rude much...!?

I'd get the vet to do bloods but I wouldn't worry, she doesnt look in foal. Our mare lost the weight off of her tummy last, she looked HUGE for a while.
