I'm picking my new puppy up tomorrow

I'm sure once he is actually here it will be totally fine, but I am having my usual overthinking meltdown! I have a plan for how we will get him home, then introduce him to my current dog and what we will do if the current dog isnt happy etc and what we will do going forward, but any tips or even anecdotes about bring a new puppy home would be welcomed!
 
This is him for anyone interested. We picked him really carefully. He wasnt the most confident forward pup, but he was happy to come to people and happy to be handled and picked up and curious about new things, so I feel pretty happy about the one I chose. The better marked more confident pup was lovely at 4 weeks but at nearly 6 weeks just looked like trouble :lol:

Aww he is tiny, but so cute... What breed?

At least you still have a little light left in the evenings.. We got our last two dogs in December and Feb.

I only got lily at teatime as I collected her on the way home from work, but she had thankfully settled enough by bedtime that we had no bother..

Earlier in the day I'm sure would be better though..

Hes a whippet :) The photo is one of him at 5 weeksish which was the last time I saw him. I'm hoping he is bigger now or I will have a real life meltdown as opposed to an online one :lol:

I'm still waiting for conformation of a pick up time, probably whats causing my latest meltdown :lol: I like to know exactly whats happening at what time etc! I am starting to wonder if I may possibly have some control freak tendencies! Surely not you say, but just putting it out there :lol:
 
What a coincidence, it popped up on my Facebook feed today that I brought my springer home 5 years ago today.
The existing dog was my uber friendly beagle so I just brought her in and opened up her box. My Baddog did me proud and was fabulous with her.
 
The whole reason for wanting a puppy is because my current dog is super friendly and desperate for a friend. I rescued a dog from death row at the pound when he was about 18 months and while she was amazing she hated all dogs and only tolerated him and I've always felt a bit guilty about it, for him and for her! We had her for nearly 5yrs but had to have her PTS not long ago and it ripped my heart out :( I feel like a very bad person for getting a pup instead of a rescue but I just cant do that again right now.

No doubt I am projecting feelings about that onto this. It would probably have been better to pay for therapy :lol: But hes coming and it will be fine. Waiting for anything exciting always sends me a bit doolally!
 
We had an elderly lab when I got my beagle, the beagle hated being alone and was just lost as an only dog, so I got her a Springer puppy.
I just brought her straight in, my beagle has never been territorial, so I was confident she would be fine. The cats were a bit offended for a few days though.
I did have a cat basket that I picked her up in. I put her bed in and left that open for her when I was out so if she wanted she could hide from the beagle. I also used it for all her travelling, best thing I ever did as now she just sleeps in the car.
 
The cat is going to go bat ***** mental! He was 6 months old when I got Dylan and he whacked him several times a day until he got to about 6 months old. They are best friends now as they share a mutual love of warmth and comfort. Eric, the cat, thinks he is king cat and doesn't tolerate nonsense like puppies :lol: I have no doubt he is going to have the most epic meltdown ever seen :lol: But I'm not too worried as he is on the whole pretty chilled out and we will introduce them properly then after that he can get over himself! He is even more spoilt than Dylan as my OH adores him!
 
Mine were house cats and spent about a week under the bed. Neither of them ever boxed the dogs though. My fat cat used to get in bed with Lola and get her ears washed. My little cat always was a bit too jumpy to be round a young spaniel, we had a few occasions where she came very close to retrieving him!
She was only 4 months old when my ex left though and he has the cats now lol
 
Also, bear in mind my most recent pup has been springer but I would say with my beagle the adage of get on the floor and get rid of anything you don't want the dog to get hold of is all very well for normal dogs. For Baddog's and whippets I reckon that needs to extend to about four foot up!
 
My cat is hard as nails! He is King Cat and we are all his minions as far as he is concerned! But he dealt with my current dog who was very difficult, so this new puppy that has been brought up in a family home etc should be a walk in the park for him. He will NOT be happy, but he is NOT HAPPY about 20 times a day so he will get over it :lol: He really does love my current dog, but thats because my current dog understands the hierarchy completely :lol:
