We got our rottweiler from a good family friend. Their daughter was going away to college and wouldnt be around to care for the dog. She wanted the dog to go to a good home and begged us to take her. She wanted £100 for the dog that comes without papers, she was just coming up to a year old.

This was back in February, ive been in regular contact with the family, she said i could hold off paying for the dog until she came back from college, she received the £100 mid june.

Ive seen the family nearly everyday, today i got a message from the daughter saying that she forgot to tell me that my payment for the dog was £50 short. I told her i definitely gave her £100, she replied saying that she got the £100 but the dog was for sale for £150. Shes now asking for the £50.

Im so annoyed at this, they know i was the one that got everything for the dog, it was stuck in a pen and forgot about. Now shes housetrained and up to date at the vets. Cant avoid them as hubby works with her dad and they live closeby.

What i dont understand is why they are waiting until now to say that the dog is more, what can i do?
 
I would talk to the family and explain you thought the dog was only £100 and really you think £150 is a bit steep considering you have now had vet bills, and spent time training the dog, if they wanted £150 why wait til now to tell you?
Do you think they could just be strapped for cash and chancing their arm or it is a genuine misunderstanding?
 
They definitely arent strapped for cash, the man breeds rottweilers and let her keep that dog. However the man said that she never really took interest in the dog since as it got bigger.

She had a lump a few months back and we spent alot of money for her operation etc (was alot more than we paid for the dog). Although i know thats not their fault.

I know it was definitely £100 and im sure they remember that too. They are just very money greedy, they live in a big house, drive a bmw, own 3 grade A showjumpers, hes always trying to make money and rarely likes spending it.

One of his horses has a huge lump on its cheek, its also bleeding. He refuses to get the vet out to check it out.

Is there any proof that she said £150 in the first place??

Surely if the dog is in a good home and is happy and well cared for, then that should be enough for her
 
If it was £150 then i wouldnt have taken the dog, thought £100 was enough for a dog that isnt registered and needed ALOT of training and feeding up.

£100 is enough to pay, that is somewhere around what you would pay for a rescue, and they would have been vaccinated and neutered

Hope they let this drop soon

I would be livid....what a bloody cheek....I would tell her u dont have that kind of money esp..after forking outfor her op....tell her she is chipped now and legally reged in your name...so bog off

She is microchipped, shes really come out of herself too. When i got her she would be nervous of loud noises and if you drop something.

They seen her recently and said it looked like a different dog. I know it sounds stupid but this dog means the world to me, she sleeps in with us at night, she goes everywhere with us, and lies across my knee like a baby.

We got her first injections as she didnt get any as a pup. Hes offering me papers from this years pups (breeds his girl every year, kc only allows every 2 years) for £100 so she will be registered. TBH i think they want her back to breed her as shes turned out to be a more bigger heavier dog than her mother and im always getting comments that i should breed her. BTW i refused the offer of the papers, i dont care about papers.
 
Unless they are particulary good friends I'd be tempted to just ignore them. Clearly they care more about money than the fact that you have given the dog a good home and taken good care of it. Its no wonder they are loaded!
 
This sound very dodgy. He cannot give you papers from this years pups. Your bitch can only be registered if the papers are for the litter she was born into. However, unless the KC has changed its rules he is allowed to breed from a bitch once a year, but no more than that. Well done for refusing the papers, and I would suspect you are right he perhaps wants her back tobreed from, and sounds as if he will find false papers if need be. As long as she is chipped and registered in your name I would just tell him quite politely that you paid the price he asked at the time and are not prepared to pay any more, end of story!
 
Just rang them, said that im not willing to pay another £50, if they want more then they can pay me the £100 plus the £459 that i paid for the operation, £10 that i paid for microchipping.

They hung up on me lol
 
go you! well done for standing up for yourself, I'm a wimp I'd probably just have ignored them.

wonder if you will hear from them?
 
Oh meant told them that was to get the dog back, hubby was standing beside me and was shouting "Yeah and can pay us for feeding the dog" lol.

Hubby is totally obsessed with this dog lol, ive never seen him so lovey dovey over anything.
 
Good for you!

Another thing, if they don't let it drop, send a letter to the KC detailing the info and just ask them if it is possible that a breeder (don't name him!) would be able to substitute a this year puppy for last years as he has said he could. That would put the cat among the pigeons!
 
I called my vet to see where i stand on this, they said as the dog has been microchipped and licensed for ages, the dog hasnt been reported as stolen or lost, that they cant try and claim the dog back.

I dont see the dog as a breeding machine, shes my baby, shes a member of the family.

That's exactly what I was going to suggest! Cheeky wotsits. And if they don't want to be friends because of this then they weren't worth having in the first place
