A friend of ours bought a horse at Melton sales last week and has offered him to us. So we went to see him today and he is lovely. We have decided to buy him.:D:D

He is about 16-16.1hh - 3yrs old - unbroken - ID x TB.

I took a good look at his passport and have found the stud where he was born online.

He is called Colormore Inspire. We just need to think of an 'at home' name for him now.

Hopefully he will make a show jumper for my daughter who is 16 at the moment.

The plan is for him to stay where he is for a week or two, then he will go away to be broken in and then come home to us in June. This winter he will be turned away, and then we will get started with him in earnest next spring.

Here is a link to some pics of him on the Colormore Stud site. Here is is a foal to about yearling. There is also a bit of video on there of him too if you look on the video page. I am planning to contact the stud to let them know that we have him.

She knows how lucky she is - she is sitting her GCSE's now and knows that although we have bought this horse for her, she still has to work hard and get the best grades she can.

I didn't actually make the KOL connection until after, but yeah I do like them haha. I am doing my GCSE's too in a few weeks time so know how your daughter will be feeling. Juggling horses and revision is hard but I think of going to see my mare as a reward for revising for 3 hours a day! Good Luck to your daughter in her exams and good luck with the new horsey :)

With regards to names, I think that unless something else comes up my daughter has decided to call him 'Jay'.

It's nice and simple and sounds good if you are saying it sweetly or sternly and not too silly to call out across a field! He will still be Colormore Inspire at shows though!

Thank you to all those who have wished us good luck - we have never had a baby horse before but we have lots of help available and are not afraid to ask for help if we need itl. Roll on June when he will come home after breaking in.

He looks gorgeous. Do you know how on earth he ended up at the Melton sales??

I think he was sold at Malvern sales and the dealer who bought him took him to Melton sales where my friend bought him.

I am hoping to contact the name and address on the passport who I am presuming bought him as a yearling and had him for 2 years.

I suppose there are all sorts of reasons why horses end up in the sales. Perhaps they lost their job, or couldn't manage a youngster - who knows?

I really hope the name and address in the passport yields some info - it's in Devon. The stud he was born at is in Essex (I have emailed them). So he's travelled a bit in his short life.

Hopefully he will be a keeper for us though.

I emailed the stud he was born at and they have emailed back with some gorgeous newborn pictures.

Apparently they hand fed him for 3 days because he could not stand up to feed as his legs were too bent. He was a big foal and nearly got stuck.

He went to a showing home in Devon and that is who has sold him now. Apparently the Devon person bought him and his half sister for showing (hunters I think) and she ahs decided he won't be good enough so put him through the sales.

I have got an email address for the Devon lady so have emailed her and am looking forward to hearing from her.

Also, it would appear his name is 'Buddy'.

Well although we have found out his stable name, we have decided to change it. I like Jamie and my daughter likes Jay.

So he will be Jamie or Jay for short.

I will keep you all updated of our progress with him, but he will not be home with us until about June I think.

Thanks for all your lovely comments.

And isn't google a wonderful tool?

Came across the thread! I am the breeder!!
Buddy as we christened him...was sold with his half sister to Devon as Yearlings to a showing home..you always hope that you find them a permanent home, but sadley circumstances can change..At least he has now found another lovely home with lovely people and am so looking forward to seeing him out under saddle :)

Very sweet face :D. So inquisative :D :D

Hope your daughter (and you!) have many, many lovely years together :D

Good luck in the exams. D1 will be doing them as well. She's working pretty hard, so fingers crossed! :D

Thanks MrsMozart, daughter is studying hard. Jay is a very sweet horse, he's really friendly and has been well handled already. He really enjoyed being groomed in the sunshine last Saturday.

Thanks.

We have been away for a few days and the man he is staying with had a bridle and bit on him on Monday and also a girth/surcingle. He said he was great and not really fussed about the experience.

We are visiting him again tomorrow and hope to see him in the bridle etc. We're going to try and do some things before he goes to be broken so that it's not all such a change for him. The man he is staying with at the moment has to go to collect a horse from the trainer in about 2 weeks time and so will take Jay there then. In the meantime we are visiting him when we can and wishing that he was home with us already.

When you are waiting for something it takes forever!! you have more patience then me as I would have had to have brought him home!
He was always very trusting, sometimes a little nervy, but his dam was like that...but as long as you reassured him he was fine....when they were sold to Devon they were originally going to be collected in a trailer, but we couldn't get the filly to load...even though Jay had never been on a lorry or trailer before he was the one that loaded!! If he trusts you he will do anything for you..
He was rugged from 6 months old and my babies are always handled from birth, and have the farrier etc.... he never had any bad experiances so he should take all of it in his stride...
I am as excited as you at seeing your daughter eventually riding him :D
