and cacking my pants!

Have made enquires about a lurcher and currently waiting for someone to get in touch about doing a home check! Eeeep!

I've been given some info re what the home checker expects, but does anyone have any tips?

I feel like I'm waiting for an exam

When home checking we always head straight for the back garden to check for a secure perimeter, and check the height of the fencing to best secure a particular dog...the match it's size, or ability to jump or escape e,t,c.
We then expect a good meal and drink whilst having a nice friendly chat

.....just messing

I then have a chat about, where the dog will sleep within the household, how long it will be left on average at anyone time, and interigate u

in regard to dog ownership

Check out the condition/behaviour of other pets in the household and check out any brats

...I mean kids and how well behaved they are and chat to you to deficer if u can offer a dog a suitable home.

Then spent some time chatting about the dog in particular and answering any questions the adoptee/you have to ask.

Rescue dogs can come with baggage and some people who rehome a dog expect the dog to fall in line immediately, so I point out that may well NOT happen and patience/perseverance is key.

I ask all the important questions, hours dog will be left/local walks/training etc, and knowledge of their chosed breed then try and have a good chat to relax the owner so I get a feel of the way they'll treat the dog long term.

One lady I homechecked said she was returning her 2 cats to rescue so she could have a dog and although I felt sympathetic as she was lonely and wanted the companionship of a dog I felt it was totally going against the ethos of rehoming animals in general.

Good luck and looking forward to lurcher pics

Well she was a stray, collected on her last day, but she seems well behaved, good with other dogs, but not cat friendly.

There will be a piccy overload if/when we get her- dont worry
